I don't think anyone will be able to-- at least, if they're an objective observer of the game. The rest of the world wonders why the United States is mostly indifferent to soccer. Calls like that one cause us to question the integrity of the World Cup, if not the game in general.
Can anyone who watched the US/Slovenia match tell me why that 3rd goal was called off? I wasn't able to watch it on a TV- was tracking the score through ESPN.

My friends and I all had laughs during the England-US game at all the players and their marvelous acting jobs falling to the ground while grabbing some body part- when it was obvious they had tripped themselves. That's one of the more annoying aspects of soccer. For folks whose bread and butter is running around for long periods of time with little rest, it's really quite astonishing how they can transform into crybabies to gain some advantage.

Wow... Looks like FIFA is going to admit in so many words that the US was robbed, and bench or demote the shite ref from that match for the rest of the tournament.

FULL ARTICLE HERE: Source: FIFA may sit Slovenia-U.S. referee

JOHANNESBURG – The referee who disallowed a potential game-winning goal for the United States will face an expedited performance review from FIFA and is likely to be excluded from the rest of the World Cup, according to a FIFA source.

Koman Coulibaly from Mali disallowed Maurice Edu’s 86th-minute strike that would have given the USA a 3-2 lead over Slovenia at Ellis Park and likely would have led to a thrilling comeback victory Friday. Coulibaly appeared to rule that American midfielder Michael Bradley had impeded a Slovenian defender, even though video replays showed no infringement.

FIFA’s refereeing committee will review footage from the Group C clash on Saturday to evaluate Coulibaly’s performance after several USA players complained about the way he had struggled to control a fiercely contested match.

Every World Cup match is viewed live by an on-site assessor who monitors the referee’s performance. However, in this case, a deeper assessment will take place at the earliest possible opportunity. That this is happening so quickly suggests FIFA is taking the complaints about Coulibaly seriously and is likely to leave him unassigned to referee further matches, according to the source. He could still appear as a line judge or other supporting role.......

Awful, innit?

That wasn't all that prevalent in the UK game until mid-90s when the Bosman ruling came in and we were flooded with EU players, who taught us those kind of tricks lol. *blames Europe*

"nice to see your own fans booing"

Would be nice to see your players playing :frown1:
Thanks. I couldn't quite understand what he was saying, what with all of the jeering in the background.

However, I'm not sure Rooney is in a position to be sarcastic with his own fans, who spent who knows how much to go down to SA to witness that effort.
