Dragostea Din Tei, also known as Numa Numa. I lost a lot of respect for Europeans when I heard that being played in several clubs as a big dance song earlier this month.

If you had been anywhere in Europe during the summer of 2004, you would have lost a lot more respect. It was absolutely inescapable then.

Actually they play it in Korea, too. Though they have redone it with Korean lyrics and girls singing the song instead of a bunch of metro guys.

I like the Alanis cover.

Apologies for my blasphemies. I still hate DMB. I hate the lyrics. I hate the music. I hate his whiny voice. I'm glad you like him, though.

Dave Matthews' voice isn't very whiny -- most of the time. It can be quite gritty and powerful. Guessing you haven't heard Rhyme and Reason, Watchtower cover, Halloween, etc. Besides, there are plenty of whiny singers. Turn on Vh1 any time they are playing videos and in an hour you will see several. Interesting the songs you listed are over 10 years and most people have probably forgotten about.

If you hate DMB that much, I'd be curious how you feel about Five For Fighting. To me they seem like everything you can not like about DMB heightened. I actually think he writes some pretty good songs. But listening to a whole album is too sugary and lame even for me.

Like I said. I still think he sucks. Nobody is going to convince me otherwise. I've had two ex girlfriends who absolutely loved him so I have heard quite a few tracks that don't get played on the radio. The ones that do, though, are obviously the ones that stick out in my mind the most in threads like this because they are the ones that are overplayed over and over and over and become incredibly obnoxious if you hated the song the first time you heard it. But I'm glad others find something of value in his work and derive enjoyment from it.

Barbie Girl by Aqua. . . . this song makes me want to gouge out my own eardrums with icepicks, after which I'd hunt down each and every record company representative or associate responsible for allowing this piece of crap to be pressed.

I figured you must have, at some point, had somebody like me years ago who would beat yo over the head with it, to turn you that bitter. I forgot too. You lived in VA. I used to listen to them probably 2 hours a day -- average. Now over the last few years, i would guess a couple hours a month. i still like them tho.

Back to songs that suck -- I'd say Justin Timberlake 'Sexyback", or pretty much anything sung by Justin Timberlake or produced by Timbaland. That is teeth-gritting, hair-pulling, eye-stabbing kind of bad

also, My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas

But these are just supposed to be novelty songs. I think they're quite fun:smile:

Bobby McFerrin's Don't Worry, Be Happy. That song made me very angry as a child.

Same can be said for Macarena.

Anything by Macy Gray. Who the fuck was smoking what flavor of crack to believe that woman has a voice that any other human being would care to hear?

I love Bjork, but... ... I guess I COULD see how she could be annoying. On the other hand, Norah Jones is pretty innocuous. As background music it's just fine. But if I had to just listen to a whole album I think I'd go into a coma.

I don't know why I feel I have to critique everybody's choices -- just do:redface:

Yeah.. I don't know why DC101 and some other local stations love DMB so much but they got played in VA ALL THE TIME, versus Illinois, where one of these two ex-gfs was from, and she was surprised that I had ever heard DMB on the radio at all before. Truth be told, though, I hated DMB passionately before I ever dated Sarah or Natalia.

re: Timberlake. I think the same goes for pretty much any popular pop (I know that's redundant) song. Listening to the top 20/top 40 station might be fun for ten minutes but it gets old really fast. The same crap songs over and over again. That said, I prefer "sexy back" to much of the other stuff Timberlake and his friends have done and most of the stuff that gets played on Top 40 stations as well.

"You're Beautiful" of James Blunt

"Bombón Asesino" of Los Palmera.

And "El beso del osito" (a stupid song made to a really stupid girl of the national edition of big brother)

Who sang "Is That All There Is?" in the late 60's; who cares?
Peggy Lee; a few folks, apparently

See, that song doesn't suck - plenty of interesting pathos going on, over an admittedly trad pop ditty for the times. At least as much pathos as Lee's record label (the behemoth Capitol) would allow for the times (1969). Wouldn't want to alienate her, uh... older demographic. At the time :biggrin1:

OK I guess I can see how this would be annoying...
