...you were hungover and made your (relatively new) friend a big breakfast but they couldn't eat it (because they were too hungover to stomach it) and had to throw it away? You also let this person crash in your flat overnight.

Very random but I'm just trying to gage some opinions about how tolerant people are of this kind of behaviour. I'm also really bad at reading people/understanding social convention and wondered if this is something that would cause offense.

I guess you should have asked before you cooked. Myself, I hate cooking. So you can come over and cook me a nice breakfast. :biggrin2:

Hate cooking too- it was actually my friend who cooked for me! I'm the hungover food-waster. It seems like such a small thing to be worried about but I'm worried I came across as ungrateful..

Probably better to beg off the eating for a completely valid reason like nausea than to choke it down and barf it all over the kitchen. Seems like you did the gentlemanly thing.

I think it's common courtesy to don't mess/play with food, especially if you can't finish it. I generally don't like seeing food go to waste. The more deliberate it seems, the more pissed I'll be. Don't pick at it if you know you're not going to eat it.

Has your friend never had a drink before? I think it's common knowledge that people usually don't have an appetite during the first few hours of a hangover. If you're feeling that bad about, why not offer to make this friend a meal or take them out to make up for it? Either way, your friend should have known.

Personally I wouldn't care....

What I understand from your story is that I ( the cook ) am hungover too.....

I always eat when I am hungover. The first bite is horrible but I learned that the more I eat, the better I am beginning to feel.

Social convention is strange and I got rid off it a long time ago.
Life is too short to be worried about what others might think of me.

My rule is : First I make myself happy... and if, in the process, I make other people happy then that is a nice bonus, if not...... too bad.

I no longer imbibe for various reasons but when I did, any time I was hungover I had no interest in food and if someone had made a meal for me I would have thanked them and apologized for my lack of appetite....and it actually did happen that way once in 1981.

If I make a meal and the other doesn't want it, I can't be bothered with being annoyed even if it means tossing it all.

No.

For starters, I wouldn't make them breakfast unless I was trying to impress them.

For seconds, I'd just tupperware the leftovers and eat it later.

Seriously... why would I care about this?

Most of the time I skip breakfast anyway. I would not cook for a friend that crashed after a drunken night. Unless she is a girl I want to impress, but since she already stayed over, I believe most of the impressing has already been done.

Yummm, big breakfast. Bacon, eggs, sausages and fried tomato, thin sliced steak a little onion, mushroom, capsicum. A slice or two of heavily buttered toast, a little bit of herb garnish....sex on a plate :) :)

...i really wouldn't be offended if a mate couldn't due to a hangover. They probably more urgent matters to deal with than your potentially hurt feelings... Like whether or not theyll make the bathroom before spewing.

I'd just ask first.

You're putting that person in an awkward position by presenting them with something that you have no idea if they'll want/like.
