I was in a situation like this many years ago. My 'best' mate had been cheating on his wife. His girlfriend wanted him to choose between her or the wife and he chose to go back to the wife. I was single at the time and knew all 3 of them. So, he had just split up from his girlfriend, making her single too. She asked me out. I accepted. We went to the pub. He spotted us and picked a fist fight with me.
Right. So what did I do wrong? Did I steal his girl? No. Did I make him look silly? Not intentionally? Was he justified in attacking me? I think not. Did my relationship with the girl last? No. Did his marriage last? No. Are he and I still friends? No. I came to my senses. He always was a drunk and a big bully.
