Having been raised in an ultra-Christian environment for part of my childhood, I would have to say, "Hell no!"

It would bring me so much unhappiness and I could never tolerate being around people who hate gay people or who are ignorant about other cultures and religions.

I thought we were talking about Christians, not MidWesterners...?

Someone gave an example about Christianity in Australia. But there are many Protestant denominations that not only emphasize a connection with God stemming from logical inquiry, but are full of people that would otherwise be considered "intellectuals" - the Methodist Church is one. I'm not a Christian, although I grew up within the Methodist church. There were interracial couples, numerous openly gay congregation members (i don't recall any gay couples), and certainly no pressures at all on teenagers regarding sexual choice. I'm pretty sure most of the people were pro-choice and voted Democrat. And this is in the middle of Missouri.

On the other hand, I did date a girl who had gone to a christian school in town, and even kissing was a huge deal. Needless to say, it went nowhere.

The last girl I dated in high school was very religious but realized I was a good person and we dated for 9 months. She didn't push any sort of conversion on me and I just accepted that part of her life.

Around that 9 month mark though we sort of his a plateau with our relationship and it became evident that I would have to convert to move forward. I tried, I sat through a few talks, but it wasn't for me.

It depends on what religion it is and how closely they follow its teachings. If it's a religion that doesn't mesh with mine and is not as tolerant as mine, they'd better be willing to ignore it.

I am presently in a relationship with some devout Pagans, but our religious observances are pretty ecstatic. We have theological differences but don't dwell on them. Love rules.

No. I simply follow a different ideology. I've just found that when the time comes that they want to debate over beliefs that rational arguments don't work with religious people. I suppose there wouldn't be too many religious people otherwise.

If you don't share her beliefs and her values, then you are not compatible on a very basic level. Just let her know you don't think you are compatible and want to end the relationship.

How religious we talking here? Like Westboro Baptist Church religious or I don't eat meat on fridays religious? The later I can deal with I just won't conform the first I rather cut off my own penis and suffocate on it.
