I guess when talking about baby circumcision we should talk about another aspect:

Pain (or no pain) is the one thing.

But I think there is an aspect which is much more substantial:
should parents decide to remove an intact part of the skin, without asking their son? They sons cannot decide. Even if they have severe problems during their life, they have to live with that. Just because their parents made that decision.

I accept circumcision if there is a reason .... like in islam.
And, of course, in case of medical indication.

But to be honest, for me it's hard to accept infant circumcision just because "his father is circumcized, too" ---

It will be an endless discussion! There are always PROs and CONTRAs when talking about circumcision. The circumcized guys will say YES, the uncut guys will say NO ...

I just turned 29 eleven days ago ... and I decided to have my penis circumcized. This happened two month ago. And it was MY decision. Not the decision of somebody else ...

ok ... i partly agree.

nowaways, if you ask young muslim teens why they have to be circumcized, they won't tell you the reason, because theys don't know.

and in fact, the koran doesn't say that muslims have to be circumcized.

but don't you think a religious motivation is still better than a "father is cut, too"? i think it is ...

But look ... religion can be a motivation of circumcision.
As I said, this is what I would accept.

But there are many nations where boys are circumcized without having a religion telling them to do this ...

E. g. Philippines ... all boys are cut. Nobody knows why.
Even the filipinos themselves don't know it.
I met one some years ago ... and he said "it's very painful ... and there is no need to do it, we are not muslims" ...
Maybe they just do it because all the neighbour countries do it ...

As I said,It`s a tradition (no religion reason),in Philippines,many African country,USA.
But there are not a man ,who can explain tradition. In Africa is tradition to circumcise without aenesthesia. In South Africa is mixed,African people circumcise without, but English people with aenesthesia. It All depends on tradition.

The cleanliness issue is fair enough for a desert people with no access to water! Why not use some fucking water and soap!

In desert cultures, running the thumb over the inner foreskin is enough to clean without soap and water.

I read an interesting study on this topic (or close enough). And it found:

Mother usually decide
The ones that decide to circ usually do so for cosmetic and or traditional reasons

This raises some interesting questions.
Is cosmetic surgery ok on babies?
Would u have cosmetic surgery done on ur baby girl?
And why are women making these decisions when they have never had a penis, or foreskin?

Additionally, i find it interesting that women find the look of their sons penis important enough to srsly risk his sexual pleasure later in life.

Anyways that my 10 cents worth.

This has to be the stupidest arguement in the world. Why do people project their own weirdnesses on their boys? male circumcision is not bad..It helps with cleanliness and truth be told their is no loss of sensation. This whole "debate is made by irrational people with issues.

Ok separate of the fact that you can't spell, I have no respect for the opinion that there is no loss of sensation....because there is loss of sensitive tissue.................

But you're right that it is a stupid argument. There shouldn't be any argument about it because infant circumcision shouldn't be happening for any reason except medical emergency.

Also, we're not irrational people with issues. I happen to be a very rational guy who was circumcised as an infant and I'm trying very hard to be rational, understanding and NOT hate my parents for having this done. I'm amazed by what difference just a little bit of restoration has done. So the "no loss of sensation" argument is crap.

Excuse me?
I was getting suited up to go see my newborn, 37 years ago. While I was scrubbing with disinfectant, I heard a sound that I thought was a baby being murdered. I ran into the next room. It was a baby being circumcised without anesthesia. He made a sound that I did not believe a human was capable of making, it was so desperate and primal.
The hair stood up on the back of my neck. I ran out shaking. A nurse came up to me, and told me it was a shame I had gotten scrubbed. My boy was about to go in for his circumcision. I told her, "the fuck he is, have you checked his paperwork".
To this day, the image deeply, deeply disturbs me.

I know you want everything to be rosy in circumcision land.
Your experience, being an adult with anesthesia, bears no resemblance to what they go through. The glans is attached to the head, and they rip the two apart with what the medical community euphemistically refers to as 'blunt trauma'.
Most babies don't get the anesthesia. Either that, or the doctor doesn't have the patience to wait the time it takes to be fully effective.

I can think of no better torture. Can you, when you picture a knife going through your unanesthetized genitals?
Don't be gratuitous.

Thanks for posting this.

While it is true that 37 years ago they didn't use anesthesia, it is now the norm. Oh, , and I have news for you, babies cry very loudly for many things, such as when they want milk, when they poop, when they see something new etc etc.

It also depends on the doctor and instruments used.

From wikipedia:
However, the authors of the follow-up study also noted that only 84% of these programs used anesthetic "frequently or always" when the procedure was conducted

This means 16% are being subjected to torture, as defined by the Geneva Conventions.
Cutting off genital tissue is like cutting off your lips, only more painful.

I have 3 kids. I know how they sound when they cry. The cry I witnessed was like no other human sound.

SicConcis, please try this simple experiment. Pierce your penis skin with a knife.
See how it feels. Please do this every time you are tempted to post.
I am certain the bias level will go down, and the accuracy level will go up.

These days, anesthesia is most common. If you have a doc not using it, he hasn't gotten with the times.

This is garbage. Anaesthesia is not safe for newborns, it's only used when surgery has to be performed for lifesaving reasons. Accordingly, circumcisions are usually done without anaesthesia. Further, religious circumcisions (the majority outside of the US) are done without anaesthesia often by a non-medical practitioner.

Oh, and another thing, the foreskin in an infant male is often fused to the head of the penis, which is why it's not recommended to try to retract the foreskin of an infant male. In circumcision the foreskin needs to be forcibly retracted and torn from the head of the penis. Just look at skin tags in circumcised men. Not pleasant.

Sardonia, local penile blocks or even emla cream is perfectly safe. Nobody is talking about general anesthesia.
