Would you have survived titanic?

I can swim...The water would have been way to cold to swim very far though. Your brain then heart would shut down in a few minutes. Whether to go alone, or with someone else would have been the question on many peoples minds then.

The thing I'd really like to know is where the iceberg was when Titanic actually went down... Was it close at hand or miles away?

I always travel with ice axes, crampons & an ice saw, so would have climbed onto the iceberg and built an igloo on top, then fished bits of wooden wreckage out of the sea to build a fire inside my new abode. Of course, before I set about building a comfy place to await rescue, I would have helped plenty of other people out of the sea onto the newly established floating principality of Zyzdom. If we also rescued the band & a couple of cases of decent plonk, we could have had a nice little knees up!

I've thought that too, how far the berg was away. But a ship the size and weight of the titanic travelling at night, at full speed. She would have taken miles to come to a full stop.

Always been under the impression that bergs may be showing only a portion of what lies below, so possible it was quite some distance from the actual Titanic, when it hit?

Soooo perhaps, if you were swimming to the berg / or even wanted to clamber onto it, you would probably be sucked under by the T sinking anyway???
ahhh...apart from having instantly frozen to death?

I'd thought that. That's why I would have the presence of mind to carry my ice axes etc. with me at all times. Then I could hop aboard the iceberg around the time of the hit and we could tether it to the ship so that Zyzdom was drawn alongside, giving time for an orderly transfer of passengers, crew & provisions prior to the inevitable.
