In my teens i loved Korn. What I'm listening to day and night at the moment is Skillet.

I like Jen (the drummer) who also sings in 2 songs.

I'm not very goth. I grew up on the Eagles and a lot of country music:cool: I like this song though, thanks for sharing it, I'll check out more of their stuff now:biggrin1: Ohhh... I like this one too!!

And we have totally hijacked the thread! Apologies to the OP!

SNL seems to have a horrible soundstage, so most performers sound like crap when they perform. But with Katy Perry, 'California Girls' wasn't that great, but she sounded better on 'Teenage Dream'. She never could really sing live anyways. Never had the voice for it. BUt she wasn't THAT bad.

Here's a YouTube clip of her singing California Girls on SNL. She really can't handle even a simple melody like that, which I find annoying but commonplace for today's autotuned popstars.

IMO, she really is that bad.

I suppose I had expectations because I know she started as a Christian singer, in other words, she started in a genre that basically will not allow sexual pandering. But now I'm starting to see WHY she left that genre and went to one that DEPENDS on sexual pandering. lol. The video for California Gurls is almost pornographic. "We'll melt your popsicle?" And the video for "Teenage Dream" basically IS pornographic, with teenagers undressing each other.

Not that I have anything against pornography....

Hardly any of today's 'singers' can perform live. The term for them is more 'performer' than 'singer'. Back in 'my day' singers regurlary released 'live' albums. That is simply unheard of today.

Can she sing? Is she pretty?

Who cares? It seems there are lots of fans and that translates to lots of money. I just wish the damn Pro Actiive ads would stop being aired (that's why I had even heard of her).

Madonna has released a few live albums lately. And I'm always thinking -- WHY?

She's realeased some videos of her concerts and she will freely admit that the sound you hear is not always her voice at that moment. in other words 'pre-recorded' bits and pieces. Have you ever heard her sing acapella? Not pretty at all. And I'm a Madonna fan. She's more 'performer' than 'singer' that's for sure.

SNL is getting pretty poor, bringing back an old reg for the seasons opening show was the dumbest thing I ever saw. With all the new talent out there this is the best they could do, and K.Perry as musical guest, REALLY!....REALLY!

Next they have us watching Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton or Andy Dick. Funnest moment on the show was the very end of NewUpdate, however watching Seth at anytime is a good thing.

SNL has been going downhill 5-8 years ago....it no longer a hip show like it use to be in the old days. It just became like any other show that should have quit while it was ahead of the game.

People have been saying that since the last of the original Not Quite Ready For Primetime Players left Lorne Michaels's downy underwing-area.

Okay. Officially creeped myself out for the day.

Exactly...and yet here we are 35 years later.

Also...I disagree. Regardless of how one feels about the musical style of the songs, Katy Perry sounded fine.

Well, that's true, but you could argue with the fact that SNL does have a really bad soundstage, though I think it became progressively worse from 1995-onwards..but don't quote me on that theory. I don't know how the soundstage works at all. Well, at least SNL has no worries. Mad TV is off the air and that's all that matters.

i agree with the OP and i can't stand katy perry. she's a disgrace to ALL native california girls. i'm a born and bred californian and i don't do half the trampy things in that pathetic song. plus the beach boys covered the california girls theme almost half a century ago... just shows how creative she is!

katy perry also reminds me of anna faris' character samantha in the 2005 movie "just friends" who's a wanna be rock star pop-princess-diva... especially the way she sings with all that yelping like a dog in heat.
