I am a musician and songwriter. As for the poetry-song connection, it was there for me. I started writing poetry first, then as I learned instruments, I started writing songs.

There have been a few poems that I wrote first and then made them into songs later on, but usually now the words and music comes together at the same time.

Is that while you're playing? Or do you pull the lyrics and the music out of the air?

I don't like a lot of poetry myself. Except of course, my own lol.

Every cent I make comes from writing.
I'm basically a feature writer, but I also do music reviews, hard news, essays.
I wrote some poetry when I was young ... and some of it was well-received ... but I have no pull in that direction now. (Sometimes I think I should put my foot in that pool again.)
I'm told I'm a very economical writer.
Am I happy with my career? Hardly at all.
I'm not really writing about what truly interests me.
Part of the job is to work up an inward sense of fascination with your subject -- any subject -- and you do learn to do that, but it's not the same as working with material that really resonates with your being.
I finally feel like a word mill. Technique carries me along quite nicely, but the real spark is only intermittently there.
But I guess that's what jobs are like.

I actually own a book written by another LPSG member. It shouldn't surprise anyone that it is a work of theology, given the calibre of religious discussions we have here.

Many years ago I was a copywriter and won the odd gong, including a finalist at Cannes and a Gold Medal at the New York Festivals. But ads aren't really writing.

I used to write a regular column for an Australian paper, and dabbled here and there in freelance journalism. I recently won a prize (an Atticus Award, for those who know of it) for a published paper in my field, and one of these days I'll get off my ass and turn it into a book. Probably.

Right. I think I had a couple ideas for novels that could have really been great if done right, which I probably couldn't have, or am at least too lazy/discouraged to attempt. I guess that was sort of a dream, which has been brushed aside.

I write, but not what would be considered enjoyable to most readers. I write research papers for a few political journals. It's all analysis of statistical data, translating numbers into terms that "the-powers-that-be" can understand. It's really cool because it's the one way that I can incorporate field-research work with a creative (not fabricated) interpretation of trends (specifically voting trends) to influence some change of political climate.

Cool. I do much the same in my line of work. I don't do the statistical crunching but I do write and present summaries of what the work means for the decision makers in the hierarchy of my organization. I'm happy to say I think we've had some measure of success in debunking previous sacred paradigms and pointing a way toward better use of resources.

I have always expressed myself through writing, but have never really thought of myself as a writer. Creatively speaking I would consider myself a dancer first. I'm an academic these days but prefer to let loose the occasional exercise in fiction when the mood strikes. I constantly hone my craft and style and still make the occasional stupid mistake. If you are curious, here's a link to my blog. It's new and I try to add to it every one or two weeks. Tell me what you think, but please...be gentle <G>:

Let me just say, "yes".

I've written very many short-stories and pieces of poetry -- I'm not a published writer, however. I also frequently contribute to a newspaper here, in New York City, geared exclusively towards the gay-community.

In college, I wrote for the school’s newspaper. I wrote critiques of anything that would fall under our Arts-section. This included music, movies, concerts, etc.

The work I do on my job has gradually become more writing intensive, too. I work in technology, and I do a lot of technical writing; I am not, however, a technical writer.

I've written quite a bit erotic fiction. Posted all of it on Literotica under the Name Twoup.

Most of it is now on here as well.

Guess its a good place for it as it has hugely endowed guys and girls.

Love to hear from anyone who has read my work.

I've been keeping a hand-written journal since I moved to Turkey five years ago. There have been so many different and hysterical, crazy things happen, which are beyond any of my previous experience, it's my way of remembering it all. I've met so many snakes and snake-charmers in the last five years, you would not believe it. I have thought it would be a best-seller amoung the hundred or so people involved in my life. But I'm lazy and really busy so I don't think it would happen. Also, the juicey bits could be a problem for many of the characters! I could get a beating! :)
