I design and build interiors for yachts and do consultation and project management for some larger (100'+) yacht projects. As a side line, I design and sell database programs which are used in the film industry.

...Not sure I'd describe myself as amazing, I'm more of a renaissance woman. A jack of all trades and master of some.
You are one of the very interesting people on this site, nj.

I have had a number of careers, all of them technical in nature. I got laid off for the first time a number of years ago and started a software consulting company. My first project I started with a friend, and it turned into the only project, since it is now a company that is on a fast trajectory to being profitable.

It took me 4 years to write the software, since I was doing it myself. But it seems like it will be worth all the hard work.

My wife likes to joke that I am "self unemployed". But she has been wonderfully supportive of the entire venture.

Being in front of a computer all day is the reason why I seem to have time to post here frequently. Working at home while my wife was off at her job during the day, you all have been like my coworkers (along with my dogs). Thanks for providing one of the most interesting work environments anyone could have.

You see? This place has got to have the most interesting collection of people on the Internet.

After reading through more of these posts I have to agree with you. I'm quite proud of us. We are an incredibly talented and intelligent group of people.

You're a yacht builder? I thought you were in charge of marketing for Red Bull.

I'm a full time student attending Augusta State University with a dual major in management information systems and psychology.
Wow, thats an interesting combo. Is there a specific job for which that combination qualifies you?

You are one of the very interesting people on this site, nj. Thank you. I can always depend on you to interject common sense and peace into an otherwise chaotic thread.

 It's been my pleasure. . . but next week you bring in the donuts.

I'm am currently waiting for my discharge papers from the Army. I've been building and maintaining HR databases since then.

I was an intelligence analyst and an instructor in the Army. (The course is a combination of enemy tactics and procedures, pattern and system recognition, critical thinking, and public speaking.) I loved teaching, and it gave me extra motivation that usually 75% of my soldiers were headed overseas within six months of completing my course. Since I went with the first wave of OIF, I knew what they were getting into, and I wanted to make sure that they and the rest of their unit got out.

Right now I'm a student (computer science major) and living off money I made over the summer, student loans, and some help from the folks.

The summer job had me technically labeled as a "Student Analyst." I did tech support (after the Help Desk proved themselves worthless beyond their ability to submit a trouble ticket to me with vague details about the problem and a veritable cornucopia of misspellings) and software development.

If I ever make it out of here... I'd like to continue developing software.
