The Philadelphia Phillies won the world series last night.

Their fans totally trashed the city, breaking windows, setting fires, fighting, damaging landmarks, etc.

The local media are saying that a few "hooligans" were "a little rowdy" and exhibited some "antisocial behavior"...

Interesting choice of words...

Why aren't they calling it a riot?

The word "riot" seems to insinuate anger, and these people were most likely happy that their team won not angry. The media wants to keep it simple.

I've never understood this behavior at all. Just an excuse to act like animals. Do they not understand its costing them in the long run when they destroy peoples property? I guess they really don't care, unless it happens to one of them, then they scream the loudest. Sad, people can't controll themselves anymore.

I don't get it either...on the news Monday night, they were interviewing some teenaged kid & he said that he hoped the police would be ready because when the Phils won, the fans were going to trash the city.

don't seem to big of a deal at all.

Two hours after the victory, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said the situation seemed to be generally under control, despite "a few hooligans," some vandalism and arrests.
"It's OK. It's all right. People are having fun," Ramsey said.

I guess i've never been a hardcore sports fan, but it seems asinine to trash the city after winning so big. There's partying but then there is also taking it way too far.

I guess it's not too big a deal unless it's your property that was damaged unnecessarily. There were people assaulted, cars overturned, businesses broken into & looted, bus shelters destroyed, etc. So far there have been about 75 people arrested.

Purely disgusting...

Maybe because the culprits were primarily white . . .

This shit happens in Philly everyday of the week, well maybe not vehicles over turned but windows broken and the article I read said there were several arrests it didn't say a number. A city with over 5000 cops there is gonna be trouble every day and to them yeah it was no big deal.
