Yankees are loaded. Not impressive with that payroll.

Sure, they're loaded from top to bottom. But it isn't that impressive when they simply outspend the rest of MLB. Particularly when they have been absent the last 8 years from World Series participation.

Get a salary cap like the NFL......maybe then we'll see how you do...

BTW, Matsui is sure to get laid tonight

Yeah, the Red Sox. :frown1:

I'll second that! :biggrin1:
But in all honesty, the way they were playing in the Wild Card they most certainly didn't deserve it. Someone needs to tell Ortiz that as a DH you're supposed to get hits... that doesn't always mean a home run.

It's pretty obvious when the same big market teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Angels, (etc.) are in post-season year after year that something has to be done if baseball wants to build up the fan base.

I'm a big fan of the Tampa Bay Rays after their 2008 Wold Series appearance. Late this summer when they were still in the wild card hunt they traded Scott Kazmir to the Angels for a bologna sandwich and a player to be named later. That kind of payroll philosophy can spell the ruin of a good team.

As a Red Sox fan, he doesn't hit because he doesn't use performance enhancing drugs anymore. As soon as his "knee" went to shit and he couldn't hit, it was obvious that's what it was.

I didn't want to believe it, but I do now.

Seems like the big market teams are most of the time in the playoffs, but what can you do? Its MLB's fault for not doing anything, that's why some teams have been struggling for years and will continue. Can't compete with the big guys.

The big payroll for certain teams things is funny. How many times in the last 20 or so years have the Braves made it to the playoffs, year after year? And how many of those years ended up in a trip to the World Series?

1) They're worth it in comparison to all the other MLB teams
2)Matsui, as recently voted MVP, would deserve it.

New York can suck it
Yeah, and you can swallow it.

People said the Marlins of '97 bought their WS win - but we are one of the few teams to win two WS's in 10 years.

Yanks can do what they want-they are the Yankees! As a former NYer, the Yanks have big $ but no class.

You still have to play the games. The Yankees have had the highest payroll all decade, but this is their first title since 2000. If anything, they have underachieved for the last 9 years.

Baseball isn't going to see a salary cap anytime soon - it's not in the perceived interest of the players, and certainly not in that of the broadcast networks.
