Exactement.
And there's no mystery.
I don't [see?] why people don't get it either.
I get it. They don't like the decision. That's fair enough.
There are other models for internet forums like LPSG. One could, for example, start a forum with no moderation, where the posters would theoretically self govern and keep ad hominem attacks to a minimum.
Maybe that's been tried elsewhere.
On the other end of the spectrum, one could create an invitation-only site that carefully controls who are members and limits or bans those its admins don't find worthy of the site.
Maybe that's been tried elsewhere.
This site attempts to cut the difference. If folks want to be members of a wild-west forum that attacks the individual instead of the idea...so be it. If folks want to settle behind a secret password and associate with their own clique...so be it. LPSG gives a broad range of people a chance to play and exchange ideas and interests fairly. If they decide to reduce an argument to name calling, they might need some time out. If name-calling and personal attacks are your thing, this evidently is not the place to do it. LPSG can't be all things to all people, but the internet votes with its feet and this place has been around for a long time.
Focus on the issue, folks. Name calling is the function of those who perhaps hold a great deal of passion, but not much substance. We can do better in our discussions and debates.
