Toy trains 'Star Wars' fans to use The Force - USATODAY.com

i'm amazed at how far technology has become. i was watching this thing on the history channel, yah? it was saying how a lot of our current technologies come from the star wars, star trek, and other scie-fi universes.

like our cell phones. they were inspired by the communicators in the original star trek

Arthur C Clarke has been cedited with thinking up communication satelites,
desktop computers, cell phones and a host of other common items
we use every day.

The first desktop computer was developed by Xerox. They even invented the mouse and a windows type operating system. But they thought it wouldn't catch on so they shelved it.

Well it makes sense that films & TV shows set in the future would have gadgets & technical abilities that would eventually materialise...in the future! Star wars & Star trek go back 3-4 decades so they probably fuelled the urgency for such products. Just the way doors automatically open now was probably hugely influenced by Star Trek. I think the design of todays gadgets was certainly influenced by sci-fi film & TV from the past.
