1963 VW Beetle. Gave it to my Niece.

Followed by a 1972 VW Beetle. Destroyed in a fire.

Followed by a 1964 VW Beetle. Sold it after four years.

My partner currently owns a 1982 (?)... 84 (?)... VW Vanagon.

I currently own a 1995 Dodge Neon that I bought brand new.

In February I shall buy a new car. Maybe Honda.

The first car I inherited (only mention it because it was so beloved... a gold 1978 Buick Regal, with "fancy" racing stripes LOL. I drove that thing forever--until the signal lever broke off, etc.)
The first car I bought on my own was a 1987 Toyota Corolla hatchback.
I abused and overstuffed that car with so much cargo, yet it was still going strong when I finally traded it in (@186,000 miles)!
Now I'm working to death a '96 Infinity G20 I bought 8 years ago... 126,000 mi. and counting!

I haven't seen this one here yet - - - and I don't expect that I will.
My grandfather bought a new car and gave me his old one which I drove to highschool. It was a 1927 Cadilac, V-16, 7 passenger Broughm.
BTW gasoline cost me 7 cents per gallon.

Gramps

I hope you kept it! What a classic, you have all of us beat with that one.

I paid 10.9 cents per gallon many times in the 60's in San Jose, I saw 7 cent gas in 1972 in Missouri. I remember the big to do when diesel fuel went from 2.9 to 3.9 cents per gallon and I'm only 57.

As for my first car, a red, 1960, 4-door Plymouth Valiant with push button automatic transmission. It was OK while it lasted, all of 2 1/2 years.

My first car was a red 1988 Chevy Specturm (4 doors).

That car was a piece of shit and after watching my wife drive her sister's hand-me-down 1986 Honda Civic Hackback until 1999 when it had 180K and was still running but just getting expensive to upkeep (and my buddy burn through 2 Fords in 6 years), I decided to never own an American car again.

Since then I have owned:

1994 Acura Integra (still running with about 170K on it)--black
1999 Rav4 -- green (Mrs. Lex wanted this and drives it)
2004 Honda Pilot - black ( I really wanted silver but they were on backorder)

My Chevy Lumina had more miles on it than your Integra when I donated it and it still ran beautifully, never had a single serious issue with it. Not a one.

My Viper everyone told me was not going to make it to 50,000 miles. It's at 60K, I use it pretty much as a daily driver (something else everyone told me I wouldn't be able to do), and aside from one (albeit fairly major) problem- which I think was linked to aftermarket work the previous owner did- and some minor electrical issues, it has also run beautifully.

Just a counterpoint because I hate Japanese cars. For a variety of reasons. Even though my Accord also ran fairly well up until the point when I ran it head-on into another car.

back in 1990 my ex-wife and I bought two new cars, Mercury Cougar and Ford Escort, 3 months after buying the Escort, we hit a deer, after that, the car was always in the shop for one thing or another, when the ex and I split up, I kept the Cougar and left her the Escort, I drove that Cougar until 2000 when the digital dash started fucking up and I traded in for a 95 thunderbird, loved that car, and some dumbass wasn't paying any attention to the cars that was parked along the side and plowed into that Thunderbird.

back in 1994 I bought a new F-150, I still have that truck to this day, that truck has hardly given me any trouble at all, just last week I had to replace the original alternator on it, this truck when I bought it had only 5 miles on it, now 13 years later, it has 198,000 miles on it, and still running strong. I plan to drive that thing till the wheels off.

there has been some posts about the Gremlins, one of my brothers had one given to him years ago, those things were short on looks, but were a blast to drive though, same goes with the old Vega's and VW's, as well as the Pinto.

1987-1988: my senior year in high school and I was desperate for wheels. After some serious negotiations I managed to drive my family's (mother's) hand-me-down 1984 Buick Skylark, a horrible GM X-car design. I don't care how long a guy's penis is, a blue two-tone Buick is not going to propogate vaginal juices.

Unless your lover is a blue-haired, church-social, orthopedic shoes-wearing bingo player.

On the other hand, if she's that old she may not be able to propogate vaginal juices anyway, which is a good thing for a Buick's upholstery.

I think the most fun car that my family ever had was a 1964 Simca 1000. Mom and 4 teenage kids would fit into that thing, believe it or not. It was a rear engine car. On Friday nights we'd head out for the Drive-In movie. We'd arrive early so the younger kids could play on the swings and stuff under the screen and we'd park on the front row so there'd be plenty of room and no car traffic. It must have been some sight to see us lift the hood on the Simca and pull out 5 folding chairs, blankets and a picnic basket. I'd set the movie speaker on the front of the car and we'd lounge on the gravel and watch the movie when the sun went down. That little car also took us to the beach, to Washington, D.C. and other family places until Mom sold it to me to drive to college. That was the car I traded for the '67 Mustang I mentioned earlier.

There was a song here in spain dedicated to that car. It said "how difficult is make love in a simca 1000".
