For me, it has to be that very first footstep off the plane onto the soil of Ireland. My first time when I was a young man, 12, I felt like I had really arrived home. It was a rush, that to this day is indescribable. I was born here in America, I am fiercely proud of being American and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, but that first step, back onto the soil of my ancestors filled my soul with joy and pride.
I've been back several times and am going back on Monday, but each time, that first step is magical to me.
Other than that, it's the white sale at Macy's. :biggrin1:

I know that spot, earl. I also found it has a calming effect.

Besides the fact that they found Lacy Peterson's body a few miles from there and the inmates who do yardwork from the prison next door, yes - it is rather calming. The fishing isn't all that great though. It's a low key but beautiful place which suits me.

Besides being engrossed in good books (which, of course, is largely independent of geographical location) my physical "Happy Place" could be any of several of my favorite spots.

One of them is a place called "Desert View" on the eastern side of Grand Canyon National Park. The place is far enough removed from the touristy hub bub of Park HQ at Mather Point to give the patient visitor a taste of the grandeur GCNP has to offer.

I've visited there several times over the years, on the job and on vacation. There's a welcome sense of solitude, silence and loneliness at Desert View I find appealing. The best time of day is at sundown when the colors of the painted cliffs come vividly alive and the gentle evening breezes whistle through the brush and stuned pinyon pines. Emerging stars and yelping coyotes give the place a magical allure the American desert southwest is justly famour for. New Mexico's motto is "Land of Enchantment" but the same could be said of northern Arizona .

2 different places, depending on what kind of mood im in:

place 1= on my 4 wheeler, miles deep in the woods, away from everything, with a couple good friends, endless trails, explore the woods all day, find a nice spot to pull over, nice view of the mountains, burn a nice fatty, and enjoy being alive!

place 2=when i really wana relax, nothing physical , sitting in my canoe , floating around a pond, with a bucket of live shiners (little minnows the bass eat) and a big fat joint, go a couple hours before sunset, and float around for hours untill its about dark, watch the sun set as im rippin out large mouth bass, another one of those things that makes me happy im alive that day!

it depends on what I am trying to "escape" from...usually it can be a good book. but, if it has been a really bad day porn can always clear my mind of all that ails it.

A lot of these "happy places" need to grow on you to really appreciate and sink in. I have been to many beautiful natural places but it is only the places that I have spent a bit of time with that have become "special".

Speedo your link is not working. I do love that drive along the south rim of the Grand Canyon even though it is touristy. Driving on empty roads through the painted desert, Monument Valley and the grand vistas of an unearthly scale were breathtaking. I need to make a trip out there again.

What is your happy place. What is your place of Zen and relaxation. What completely mellows you out?
My happy place is the beach. I'm very fortunate to live 3 blocks from the ocean. The OP asked about joy. One time I went out in 4 - 6 foot surf with a pair of swim fins and a boogie board. The perfect wave came, and I got tubed on the boogie board and rode this wave for what seemed like eternity all the way to shore. While I was in the barrel, I was thinking to myself "I'm getting tubed!" It was one of the most exhilerating experiences in my life.

I LOVE doing that exact same thing, except crappies instead of LM Bass :)

What I would give to live at the beach.
