hung_big: Hmm...so what annoys all you folks? What is it that bothers you beyond reproach and just the mere thought of this hinderance makes you cringe?

One of mine would be narrow-minded people who think they are always right. These people I cannot stand. These are the types who have it there way or the highway and their opinion, their lifestyle, their religion, their very existance is right, while everyone else who is different is wrong.

Secondly, I hate the people who cross that fine line between confidence and arrogance. Confidence, for me, if a complete turn-on. It's great to see someone stand by his or her convictions and defend their opinion. But, on the other side of the fence (the other extreme) I despise those people who are arrogant. Those who think they are "the shit" and who walk around as if they own the world.

Those are my two pet peeves in terms of people, but I will think of more in time...

iwfuutaudls: well, it sounds to me like the two pet peeves you listed can be generally classified under one category - morons.

i personally can't say that i have any pet peeves. i don't mind morons, for example, because morons are easy to manipulate and subjugate.

people talking on their fucking cell phones going slow in the left lane on the freeway. "no one else matters but me".

i am highly supportive of banning cell phone use in cars while they are in motion.
you don't need to gab in the car if it puts other people's lives at risk and slows down traffic.

Let's see, my pet peeves? Stuck up people (like was listed), People who consistantly snivel about everything thats wrong in their life but show no sympathy to others who come to them for sympathy, internet trolls, people who meddle into your affairs even if you tell them not to (curiosity is fine, but meddling and gossip piss me off) People at work who leech off of what you do and still get credit, annoying people who deliberately piss ya off, and well thats about it. Seems like these are on everyones list though.

    Wow !

It seems like we have some common peeves . Well here goes...

Women that change their voices and talk baby talk when on the phone to their SO.
Married men who have no problem slidding up to single women and hitting on them.
People that speed up coming off exit ramps or people that speed up so they cant get in the lane.
The Kato Kaylin's of our lives
Manipulators. users. emotional vampires, bottomless pits of need, emotional hit and run artists
Brown wren mentality in women(The attack of majority mediocrity on minority excellence)
Smug marrieds ( to quote Brighid Jones)
Pompous power brokers who are more interested in leaving their "Legacy" than in the greater good.
Inclusion of made up words in the standard english dictionary in an attempt at being politically correct (i.e. "Bling" )
Expressions such as " Blase, blase"
People who use their intelligence as a weapon.

    Is that enough?

My main pet peeve is hearing professional speakers such as TV and radio personalities use incorrect grammar, wrong tenses and cases. One that is particularly nerve wrenching is using the wrong case after a preposition, such as --"just him and I" instead of "just him and me", and even worse is saying "I and him" (not putting yourself last). "Lay" instead of "lie" is an often misused word.

Maybe this is what I get for being married to an English teacher for 29 years!

I'm in two minds about bad grammar. Is it an abomination, or a natural part of how language changes, grows, and stays vital? Besides, there are plenty of things I see in my own English that piss me off when I catch myself.

That said, here are some of the pettiest from a long list of pet peeves.

    "very unique"

Using apostrophe's to make thing's into plural's. Especially tomatoes.

Someone once tried to argue that a rhetorical question shouldn't end with a question mark. How stupid is that.

    "Taking a different tact"

"A hard road to hone" or variations. For the record, its a hard row to hoe.

(BTW, everyone, did I spell "hoe" right?)

Using the same word too often in a passage without rhetorical intent. (This is one of my major faults--particularly unnecessary adverbs like particular/ly, just, and especially especially.)

Over-use of the word "whom". Whom else is annoyed by this?

Using an ellipsis...where you could use a comma.

People who refer to a California Roll as sushi. People who refer to sashimi as sushi. People who refer to any raw fish as sushi. If you want to eat pretentious Japanese food, get it right. The phrase seafood carpaccio is just as snooty, and more versatile.

(BTW, everyone, did I spell carpaccio right?)

OTOH, it's inevitable that language will change, and such "mistakes" propel it forward. Nouns will turn into verbs. "gh" will fall out of the way we spell words. And infinitives will be split, because they sound better that way. Oh, well. Que sera sera. Or should that be che...?

    Lets see....

People who walk infront of me slowly, smokeing.

People who go everywhere with a cell phone attached to their skull just saying "yeah.....yeah.....yeah...."

People with their music on their headphones so loud I can hear it across the street.

People using their cars for personal discos.

People who dont have mufflers in their crappy little cars, comon guys, it practically screams to everyone "I AM A BAMSTICK, I HAVE A SMALL PENIS AND 4 KIDS EVEN THOUGH IM ONLY 18!"

People who talk about other people like they are cars ("whoa, look on the arse on that" "whoa, look at that figure" etc)

    Forum Trolls.

Political correctness. Whatever side of the aisle you're on, it makes you sound about as natural as Reagan classifying ketchup as a vegetable.
Tautology, e.g. "red in color" or "larger in size".
