My experience in Jail says, yup. Believe it or not, msot crooks I met were red white and blue die hard conservative Americans, that believed we should be tougher on criminals and all that. Crazy, but true.

Hmmm... I have stated this before that the white populations in jail cells throughout this country are redneck as hell... not necessarily Southern rednecks, there are a shitload of Northern rednecks too (there is absolutely no shortage of Yankee rednecks).

Most rednecks have a problem staying out of trouble.

You committed a violent felony New End?

But he's assuming that I would have said that to him... and he has no way on knowing this. And to be brutally honest, I wouldn't have cared either way.

Not from the way I read it. The first statement was that he was honest and you had asked, the second looks more general that if he had said he didn't vote, he would've gotten a lecture about it. I don't see any stated assumption that you in particular would be the lecturer. Just a statement of action and reaction in the given environment.

Not caring is an okay attitude, but in truth, caring but not letting it bother you or stir you to reaction is better. The reason for this is simple, in the former, by not caring, you don't learn about the person's reasoning or methods, and so you remain detached, but you also do not gain any new insight. In the latter, you gain the insight, but still don't have the reaction because you'd already taken out what you would be learning from the long discourse of reactions and back-and-forth anyway. If the left eye didn't "talk" or "care" about the right eye's perspective, our lives would be a lot more shallow.

It's a double edged sword...
There are many reasons (besides being a felon) that people don't or can't vote. If New End wouldn't have left it at that, I would have never instantly thought it was because he spent time in jail. I go around LPSG looking for big dicks, not convicts.

In fact, it's news to me that the right to vote differs from state to state when it pertains to people in jail. And even if other people would jump in with the "you shouldn't have any complaints" rhetoric, to assume that I would have said the same thing is ridiculous. Not everyone is the same in this regard. I'm sure there's plenty of things in everyone's lives that we do not openly reveal on this message board. When things get heated, people refer to personal experiences that others usually don't go through to get leverage on a debate. And when the dismissive insults fly back and forth, you can bet that these same points of honesty will come back to haunt you. Is that why he tried to use the word "tourist" as some inflammatory comment when I mentioned that I spent time in the Middle East? Who knows... but he tried to take a cheap shot at me and it's not underneath me to return the favor once in a while. Sometimes, being the "better man" is overrated.

I would have been fine with him saying that he didn't vote. Everything else (IMO) was TMI.

Shit, that is easy as hell to do. I've got my share of misdemeanors and if the charges would have stuck, I would be a convicted felon too.

Yeah, I payed a very large amount of money for my public defender. I probably should have just got a private one. Oh well. I'd say lesson learned, but I really don't plan on needing a lawyer for a felony again. :biggrin1:

totally man.......a private lawyer would have told you a) after your term is served you can request your rights back and almost always get em, b) people who smoke pot shouldn't sell itand most importantly c) public defenders are free, that was just a sheriff's deputy trying to get his notary public license

then kicked your ass around the holding cell like a soccorball for the america burn shit......
