My Tijuana Holiday

My Tijuana Holiday

I arrived 4.5 hours before Eurydice and didn't want to sit at the airport all that time twiddling my thumbs. Jovial was kind enough to pick me up from the airport. Ever gallant, he gave me a tour of Old Town San Diego, the marina, Balboa Park and took me out for a very nice lunch. We had a great time!

ATTN. SoCal Ladies: In addition to being smart and funny, Jovial is an incredibly, handsome man. The pics in his gallery don't quite do his body justice either.

Unfortunately the holiday was almost ruined by my friends' passive-aggressive mother-in-law tagging along and driving us both crazy. I found my backbone and my voice quickly and blocked all attempts by that crazy wench to harass and belittle my friend and myself. Mrs. B, (the mother-in-law) is one of those people who likes to brag that she only watches CNN and PBS. As if that somehow makes her a better person. NOT!

Mrs. B plucked my very last nerve when she criticized my watching of Ugly Betty on Thursday night. She was sitting at the desk editing a manuscript and pushed her glasses down so she could better look down at me, before snootily saying, "What sort of people watch this...this Ugly Betty?" I was stunned! I told her only a few hundred million Americans watched it every week, it has received critical acclaim by the NY Times and it is based on a Spanish soap opera. The latter is the only thing that redeemed it in her eyes. She even spoke with disdain about Jeopardy!

As mentioned in a previous blog my dear friend Eurydice was there for a bit of cosmetic surgery. I chickened out and did not have any surgical procedures done. Though I did have 3 crowns done, as planned; and an unexpected emergency root canal. All of which was done in state of the art dental facilities.

Should you be in Tijuana and need dental work or even if you live in the San Diego area I have no qualms about recommending Dr. de la Vega. He told me he has two other patients from Atlanta, GA. As I was leaving his office a woman was coming in who was from Toronto, Canada! She flys down twice a year for check-ups.

I know I have bitched quite a bit about Mrs. B but the trip was not a total bust. This was my first vacation since 2000. I was not going to let the likes of her thwart me. Though I love him dearly, it was so relaxing to not have to tend to my ailing dad for a week. I slept in almost every day, I didn't have to worry about taking out the trash, cooking dinner, or doing the dishes. I read a tawdry romance novel, ate wonderfully decadent Mexican foods and did things I would never do at home. Mrs. B marveled at my ability to navigate the lunch buffet and still have room for 4 desserts! :biggrin1: I would never eat like that at home for fear of getting fat. I even flirted shamelessly with the waiters and the handsome policia that were often outside our hotel to escort the FINA divers.

Oh, did I mention that there was a FINA competition in Tijuana last week and all the divers from around the world stayed in our hotel? I kept bumping into one cutie in the elevator

I met my friends surgeon. He was friendly, compassionate and though she is still swollen, her results were teriffic! I also met a woman who had her boobs done by his partner, Dr. Fuentes 2 weeks ago. She is a nurse in his office.

As soon as I get a decent job and save some money, I plan to go back and have liposculpting done on my abdomen and maybe upper thighs, to balance me out if necessary.

Medical Tourism is the primary source of tourist revenue in Tijuana, Mexico. Most doctors and their staff are bilingual. Since the bulk of their clientele are Americans and Canadians the savvy surgeons are board certified in the United States as well as in Mexico.

If you are interested in cosmetic surgery abroad I suggest you check out www.psjourneys.com. Tijuana seems like the place to go for quality care.

Last but by no means least I shopped! I got my Advair asthma inhaler for less than 1/4 what it costs in the states. I also bought a watch, a leather handbag, a small Mexican flag, a large velvet sombrero and various tchotchkes. Yes, I am such a geekette that the only drug I bought back from Mexico was an inhaler.

So, did you get hooked on poppers in Tijuana? Or you brought back an "obscene phone caller" from Mexico?

Hehehe. Kidding.

Welcome back, NJQT.

I go to TJ twice a week. I buy gas there eat $2.80 @ gallon. I have a doc. friend there and see him once a month for lunch. I go to Takata for the dentist. The best eye glasses are in TJ and the twin towers and they have the best buffet lunch there. Down town has a street vender to buy shrimp/fish taco's.

Yay, you're back!
I miss the West Coast. :( Thanks for the info on Jovial - making a note to throw myself at him next time I fly home. :biggrin1:

Good posting. We used to jump the border and buy our plane tix to Cabo and Cancun.... Mexicana, but we had some unwarranted hangup over AeroMexico.

You seem "nicely balanced" already, njqt. Good to hear you had a fun time on your holiday!
