I'm being BITCHED out

My father passed away this past Tuesday and I'm being bitched out by and aunt and uncle (his sister and brother) because I along with my mom had my father cremated. Anyone been through something like this before? I feel like I'm walking around in a fog already and don't need this to deal with in the process.

By NC state law, the decision on how to make final disposition if to the immediate next of kin--in order, spouse, children (in order of age, but over the age of 18), then siblings, etc. In most cases, your mother, along with you and any siblings, would probably make a family decision. While other family members feel they have rights, they don't.

You're dealing with a lot just because of your father's death, don't let people who don't have a voice make it worse for you. If it was your family's wish to cremate, that's all that matters and your aunt and uncle will have to respect those wishes. It would be really great if you could express to them that your father wanted to be cremated--I've seen families say that to people opposed to the process, and you should see the jaws drop--they can't say anything at that point.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but please don't let people who don't have a voice make a difficult time even harder for you.

sorry for your loss...extended older family have no say in the matter...ignore them...you did the right thing...

Today was a very emotional day for me and my mother. We have no regrets. We are actually able to smile today because daddy isn't in any more pain. We just kept our chins up and supported those that were grieving more than we were. Our philosophy is that the remains arean't daddy. They are just remains. He's in a better place than we are.
