Update on the Roommates

A few days ago I posted about how I was planning on having roommates here in my apartment to help cut down the costs for me.

Well.... It fell through.

There are a lot of complicated things involved in it, but, to break it down simply, the school that they attend has sharp rules about cohabitation on or off campus. For some reason this school believes they can control where and with whom people live with. If it was discovered that they were living with me, they would be kicked out of school immediately. I personally think that the school's position on people living with members of the opposite sex is bull, but that's not my rule to make I guess.

Second, I spoke with one of my coworkers, and he agreed that it might not be best for them to live with me considering that I'm their supervisor, and there are too many things people could say in regard to that, and I don't even want it to be an issue. You know the old saying, "People talk." I don't want people talking about me in that regard, especially when I would never jeapordize a job by doing something stupid with a coworker.

In any case, it's not going to happen now, which sucks for me, but I guess in the long run it's better for all of us. Well, I need to go back on the hunt for roommates again. I'm trusting that if this situation happened so easily, it can't be hard to find someone else.

it's probably best if your their supervisor. but, the school telling them they can't live there "when they are the one's paying their own rent is bogus and seems illegal or at least somehow not right.

you got some good roommate advice on the last blog... hopefully you'll be able to consider those when you find the right person(s).

I agree with spoon. Being the supervisor of a roommate could put you in a really difficult situation if you ever had to discipline one of them regarding work performance.

If a person lives off campus, and the school is not giving them scholarships to pay their rent... yes I agree with spoon on this too. If it is a private college, however, they can pretty much write their own rules, I suppose.

Good luck in the hunt~ (ever thought about asking your bf to consider 'rooming' together??) Just a passing fancy ~ (no pun intended)

I've talked to my boyfriend about moving in with me before, at this point he's completely unable to pay half with me. He doesn't really want to move out of his parent's house until he's able to take care of things he needs to take care of, such as rent. It's a pride thing I think, he wants to be able to pay his share of the rent. He's working really, really hard, so hopefully that will be a possibility in the near future.
