I can't remember exactly where but it was the director/his wife saying the nude scene was needed because it showed his character right off the bat etc. and he said something about it being uncomfortable and it not being easy.
Now I could be misremembering or misinterpreting the quotes and he could have meant he was uncomfortable with something else but either way we gotta thank Sam for letting us all see that.
