Animal kingdom

You know what really confuses me with the show...
It seems that their 'target audience' is the typical straight male yet they include a gay character. They show some form of male nudity but don't go all the way.

If the show was truly targeted to the straight population they wouldn't being showing any type of guy 2 guy action yet they do which obviously attracts the gay guy to be interested into the show but then they don't go all the way to satisfy LOL.

If you compare the amount of times male VS female nudity on the show hands down more of the guys have been featured.
I just wish we got some frontal nude scenes....that would be so amazing

It's kind of funny because I get what you mean, my dad is fairly straight and he hasn't missed an episode of this show and he likes Deran's character despite all the gay sex.

Yep i can totally understand it.

See for example Deran's character if they never showed the gay sex scene parts you wouldn't have a clue the character was gay at all. His behaviour around everything else is like your typical straight alpha male.
Honestly i think thats what i find even more hot about the way its shown!!

The show's likely written by straight dudes who probably consider themselves allies. The creator is the same dude who created Shameless US and reworked Ian into a resilient, more alpha version of his British doppelganger (at least in the early seasons).

I think the male nudity is pretty good, especially from Ben Robson who seems fine with nudity at any moment. RE: the gay sex, I actually think the show does a good job with that, too. None of the sex scenes are too graphic, so it doesn't make sense that the gay ones would be.

In terms of audiences, I think straight guys are becoming more comfortable with LGBT rep in general, but it's important to note that the kind of gay characters we're seeing in these type of shows are almost never the... let's say, more flamboyant type of gay dude. As you guys noted, Deran seems like a straight dude on all accounts and that is definitely intentional.

That said, not every person who watches this type of show is a straight guy. I only found out about because of a girlfriend who hyped it up, and I probably would have loved it even without Deran (though he adds a lot and I love the rep).

Love the show. Love the guys. I live in Oceanside where the show takes place and they come film a few times on location during the beginning of each year to about now. I work for a theatre company where we premiered the finale of the last two seasons with the producers and some of the cast present so got the opportunity to sit with Ben and Shawn and talk a bit. Fucking gorgeous dudes. Ben is like a monster in size it’s so hot.. and he’s sooo sweet. I’ve chatted with them all except Finn. Finn is a goddamn babe though holy fuck.

Ohh yep i agree i like how the scenes are not too graphic either way..im guessing also it makes sense its done that way to help keep the audience rating from being R18+ etc.

Yeah i love the way Deran's character has bene written exactly that way. Its the reason he totally appeals to me!

I was interested in the show because i had seen the original Australian movie that was made and was curious to see how the US show would differ...plus when those still shot pics came out of Finn changing and stripping down to his white briefs with a massive bulge i was like 'yep I'm watching this!' :D
