Agreed. Also add the psychology behind many actors and how they often are attempting to escape reality, are outrunning trauma, subconsciously trying to rebuild or recreate an ideal “brand for themselves , are often hyper focused on their image and how others (personally and professionally) perceive them, etc. I dated a relatively famous actor for years and at the end it became 100% clear that he has narcissistic personality disorder (he told me this, I didn’t know what that meant at the time) and was incapable of love. Not just narcissistic traits, but full blown NPD. A cluster Bpersonality disorder that prevents any empathy, etc. Just a human chameleon and shell of a person trying to use others for personal gain to validate himself, strengthen his idealistic image, make more money, have arm candy, maintain “heat” in the industry, etc. Not all actors have bee diagnosed with NPD, so I won’t generalize, but there are many who are hiding who they truly are in order to gain that acceptance from others (and often also improve their personal acceptance of themselves) though multiple forms of validation specific to the industry. And not for nothing but why is it a shock an actor is gay. Does anyone know any straight actors in real life? Like the average high school classmate who did and went into theater was most likely gay and you knew it.
It’s like turning your nose up at the idea there’s a lot of lesbians in the WNBA or there’s a lot of gays in interior design, fashion, and hairdressing.
I think overall if there were statistics done of actors across (not just Hollywood) the US, straight men would be in the minority as actors.
If we were talking about construction workers or bartenders maybe you’d have a point. But we’re talking about men who wear makeup and play dress up as a living.
So give me a break.
All of this is relevant and related to why so many actors are closeted and/or openly gay compared to almost any other profession.
