I have to have 4 cervical joints fused due to bone spears pressing on the spinal cord. My question is has anyone here had similar back surgery and how did affect sexual function during recovery and after recovery. Haven't had a chance to talk to the doc.yet and I think most medical professional will soft soap their answers where sex is concerned.

I had C4-C5 fused. It had no effect on me sexually in any way.

Hope all goes well, if you haven't already had the surgery. But if you have, then I hope you're healing well.

It's been 3.5 years since my surgery. I still have the occasional "WTH is going on now?" sensation in my neck, but it goes away everytime.

Best wishes!

You and I have the same medical issues. I am scheduled to have my 10th MRI this week for severe spinal stenosis in my cervical spine, my thoracic spine my lumbar spine. I am like you; I need the same fusions in my neck. Also, I need two fusions in my thoracic spine and two in my lumbar. I see my spine surgeon the following day after my MRI and will learn how many surgeries they will do. I have a feeing that they wii do three separate surgeries. I have already had 2 spine surgeries in the past 4 years, but the second surgery cause a problem. A bone spur was removed that was putting pressure on my spinal cord. Doctors noticed during surgery that the nerve that controlled my bladder was damaged and that I would need another surgery. Doctors had to alter the neck of my bladder and removed part of my prostate which was enlarged. Doctors did a TURP surgery that resulted in me having dry orgasms. I have been on Cialis for over 5 years, and honestly, I have better sex. I can control when I have an orgasm. I can last an hour, my wife enjoys the dry orgasms and always has several orgasms during sex and has to tell me to finish. I do not have any bladder issues after having the surgery, and for the past four years my prostate has not been a problem. Hope things go well for you in your surgery.

I had the neck/spine last October. Best advice and wise to start practicing before surgery is the log roll. Getting up and out of bed can be painful. Rolling like a log and letting gravity to lower your feet on the side of the bed and than using your arm to sit up. Take all meds as Dr orders and don’t skip any dose. Keeping ahead of pain is smart. Also one male nurse said to get wash cloths wet them lay them flat in the gallon freezer bags and freeze. Placing them as the will lay flat on the next was great advice. No sexual issues whatsoever. Good luck and know these surgeons are great
