And you are probably both right and are actually in agreement that HIV was when discovered in the '80's and still is - mistakingly - viewed upon as being a 'gay disease'. You might also agree that the harsh social stigma associated with this condition is that one of the ways to get struck by it is through sex.
So extremist and/or right wing religious folk perceive it as one's own fault, because they feel you should not have sex before you are married (heterosexually) and can never, ever, ever break up and find another sexual partner or give into temptation when meeting someone else you feel sexually attracted to.

HIV is transmitted waaaay more by straight people than by gay people.
Clean just doesn’t reference HIV status! It references std’s as well. My reference of clean means free from all diseases.
It's still a demeaning and cruel term, because it implies that those not "clean" are "dirty".
