Definitely not intended to be about cocks, Silky.

I was reading some history in which population growth was being discussed, and together with current concerns in rising food costs and food security issues, I was just wondering what would happen if we ever had a food rationing situation like in WWII in the UK. 2000 calories a day wouldn't be very clever if you are six five and 250 pounds.

People have pointed out several disadvantages of being tall and big, yet many people see this as being very important. I just wonder if it's that clever to breed for big when this could become a serious survival disadvantege.
Well, your concerns are actually proven already by nature itself, in the past ice age there where huge mammals, much bigger than current ones, where are them?, dead, nature already tried the "Big" apporach and it failed to survive.
Calories are quite the issue, for me, i could live perfectly well with 1500, but many people would suffer bad, but after some research on some not usual foods, i found that its quite possible for example to live perfectly fine without meat, there are grains and other stuff to get the needed nutrients to live fine, and several other ways to find food, modern societies have a very limited food choices, its just a matter of perception.
Im in favor of stable population, the chinese got it half right, but when i was seeing a natgeo docu about this, the ones that got the best way to deal with it where a small city in india, where someone quite clever decided that to prevent population problems in the long run, education should be a must for youg females, and it did worked, girls there are much more aware about it, and their birth rate is fairly stable.
That woould be the two things, investing in education, and be open to try new food sources

I think that 99.9% of all the species that have ever existed on this planet have gone extinct.

It's not a comforting success rate.

I suppose humans have a chance to buck the trend because we have the ability to leave the place. That is if we can do this before we destroy the place, or it destroys us.
