I've done a lot of searching on this site. I've seen "average" anywhere from 5 inches long to 6.5 inches long. I've also seen that the "official" studies can even have a big difference.

My question is what is the most reliable way of measuring? Is it bonepressed (BP)? And what is the average for BP and non-BP?

I am asking because I am trying to see where I fit. My BP length is about 7 inches and girth about 6

Wessell's puts the the NBPEL close to 5", and the BPEL close to 6". When people talk about the 'average' length being 6" this could only refer to bone-pressed. I don't think it's the most accurate to use when boasting (telling people you have a massive penis that's buried under 4" of fat won't impress anyone). It is the only accurate way to measure for comparing studies. If you try NBPEL you're almost guaranteed to have inexact levels of pressing in to the fat. A Brasilian study found that the same penises varied by well over 0.5" when measured by different people if they didn't bone press.

Bone pressed is the only objective place to measure from that takes your fat pad out of the equation (for comparison purposes), even though it may not all be visible. I think non bone pressed is more a measure of how thick your fat pad is then how long your penis is.

So when everyone is talking about how big they are on here, or the size of "normal" or porn stars, etc are they talking bone pressed or non?

In my case, it's bone pressed.

I can understand why some people think BP doesn't quite make for a valid measurement in terms of visual or sexual importance, but I also believe it's the only valid way to measure if you really want to know, with a bit more accuracy, how big you are.

Use NBP if you want to compare with other dudes here. You can never tel how much fat pat a person has by looking at their dick. Thus it seems to use NBP when claiming size on the net.

I'm pretty certain that the bone pressed measurement is the proper way to do it. When I put on some weight my dick stays the same length and any accumulation of fat or flesh around my pubic area is not necessarily in the way of full penetration because, firstly, it is soft and moves aside, and secondly, often my cock angles away and down so it's not an obstacle. My weight has varied from year to year, so I am familiar with this.

in my opinion, no one can really accuse you of lying if you use bone-pressed. so many guys out there claim to be 9 when they're really 7, so a difference of 0.5 isn't a big deal. whether it's 7.5 or 8, i don't really care if anyone faults me for claiming to be 8...

Well, in my case, the BP isn't a factor. Til I put my dick down from the curved-up position, it IS bone pressed! lol So I am a true 9X6+ with no fatpad. If I am getting fucked with a guy is 8" not considering the fatpad, I am assured that there is at least another inch in ther for me........just saying

From what I've read (and I've read a lot), scientific studies seem pretty evenly divided on both NBP and BP. That said, just because someone attempts to be scientific doesn't mean their methodology is beyond criticism.
The
Brasil study ( Penile anthropometry in Brazilian ... [J Pediatr (Rio J). 2007 Sep-Oct] - PubMed - NCBI ) is by far the best scientific review of the different methodologies I've ever read, and their conclusion was that BPFSL is by far the best, most reliable measurement. BPEL is good also so long as the erection is induced chemically, and the results are typically ~0.5" longer (I think because the head grows a lot more in erection, though a maximally stretched shaft will be the same length as a maximally erect one.)

A few studies (e.g. Ponchietti et al, aka the Italian conscript study) clearly don't BP, but their measurement is closer to:
- put ruler at the base of penis
- pull penis as far as it will go

So they're not really 'bone-pressing', but it's a longer measurement than if you stretched first, then put the ruler on. Just going by my own dick, I'm not sure where the 'base' is after I've stretched it, since what was the base before gets stretched forward too.
For NBPFSL, it's typically ~13cm for the median + average.
Ponchietti was 12.5cm median
Orakwe et al (Nigerian study) was 13cm Can physique and gluteal size predict... [West Afr J Med. 2006 Jul-Sep] - PubMed - NCBI

as a side point, it's interesting that when it's not in porn or urban legends, there's remarkably little ethnic variation. This is so conclusive, yet the myths persist...

For a BP length, it's generally closer to somewhere over 14cm. Brazil puts the BPFSL (they call it RSLmax) of a fully-developed adult penis at ~14.5cm.

If we convert these to inches, that's about 4.9" NBPFSL, and 5.7" BPFSL. If you add in the ~0.5" extra you get at maximal erection vs stretched, you get the exact same results Wessels et al found: around 5" for a NBPEL, and around 6" for a BPEL.

Bone pressed length, from my view, is actually longer than how far I can actually smash into a woman. If I make a mark on my shaft when I go fully balls deep, and measure that point to tip, it's significantly smaller.
But for me, who doesn't love taking a measurement tht is a bigger number?!?
It's fun. :p
