Of course it is idiotic, but that is an essential fantasy many people have that they can turn someone to love ... no, to be attracted to, them. And that is especially true for sexuality incompatibilities. The age old fantasy that a Lesbian "just hasn't found the right man yet", but the gay version of it. Nothing is more boring than a needy, willing bottom. A reluctant "straight" guy is much more interesting to flirt with, fantasise about, etc.
