Christopher Reeve

Gorgeous is an understatement. He did look hung in that Superman outfit. There was all kinds of talk about how they had to tailor the trunks so that he wouldn't be "swinging".

Was talking to someone about this the other night
He had such a beautiful face and what a body he had
Christopher Reeve was Superman
Why being another Superman film out there's no need
Such a tragedy about his accident only 52 when he passed
He was a gentle giant

I guess with the Man Of Steel movie out (which I saw today in IMAX 3D) people if a certain generation will be remembering Christopher Reeve. I've come home & working my way through the Superman collection BluRays & all the extras. He was certainly the epitome & the benchmark of Superman on the screen for my generation & was the living proof of a super hero.
The new MOS movie is a new take on the 75 yo Superhero & I have to say that I reckon a lot of folk will admire & fall under the spell of Henry Cavill's take on Clark Kent/Kal-El. However if it wasn't for what Chris did in that movie back in 1978 there probably wouldn't have been Batman, Hulk, Spiderman, Dark Knight, or Avengers movies we have today.

"Deathtrap" was an endevor that I think both he, and his fans. would rather forget.

I still remember how embarrassed I was when I took a straight friend to see it; especially when Christopher and Michael Caine embraced and kissed.

That kiss in Deathtrap between Reeve and Cain was important. Remember, it was 1982. Life in this country, for gay men, wasn't that great. In fact, it was pretty bad. Maybe not as bad as it was in the 40's or 50's, but there was still a tremendous amount of explicit hatred for gay people. Ronald Reagan had been inaugurated just a year before and he was professionally anti-gay. As a movie, it may not have been a blockbuster. But for the time, it was important.

I don't remember if it was before or after Deathtrap. Reeve was in the play "Fifth of July" on Broadway. The character he played was gay. He had a couple of good kisses with Jeff Daniels, who had some shirtless scenes. Also a real hottie. If you are aware of the play, the part was played by Richard Thomas when it was shown on TV. I'd take any of them if they ever wanted me. (LMAO)

I saw him in Fifth of July on Broadway as a sophomore in college, struggling with my own coming out. It was a life changing experience for me to see two men in love on the stage. Went back and saw it three times. Later after his accident, I realized how interesting the play was on a different level, in that his partner in the play was a paraplegic Vietnam vet and he had spend many a night on Broadway lifting Jeff Daniels into bed, to the toilet, etc. I am sure he must have thought on that a bit himself.
