Once I had an airport-cockring problem, but it wasn't with the metal detector, as I had taken the ring off, and put in in my carry-on bag, along with a second heavy metal ring. After the X-ray, they asked me to look in my bag, removed a few items, and X-rayed it again. This happened a couple of more times. Finally, the security officer asks if I had any "bracelets" in my bag. I realized what he was referring to, and I just said yes, rather than trying to explain what they really were.
