His music wasn't nearly as good/catchy. Mendes/Bieber released songs that became massive global hits. Cody is on the Austin Mahone end of the male pop tart spectrum. Part of it is talent (especially compared to JB) but also wrong song choice/management.

I dont think it was the music. JB already owned the lane. No other JB clone was able to breakthrough and Cody began releasing music in 2010. I mean i think he had a decent fanbase just Justin's appeal was too strong
