Ha! I thought they were backing away because it was too pornographic, but it’s just because Bezos is already in bed with the AI real life subject of the film and doesn’t want to anger or compromise that relationship that’s critical of the company. It’s conflict of interest for him wanting more money that AI will provide, nothing to do with the performances or anticipated quality of the film. God forbid Bezos not catch up and surpass Elon…
The movie itself isn't being shelved, just that Amazon is no longer going to be the distributor for it and the movie is being shopped for a new studio to release it.
Principal photography is complete and the movie is in post production, supposedly with some early test screenings already having taken place.
My guess is, Amazon dropped being a distributor because of their partnership with OpenAI and this movie paints OpenAI in a negative light.
WTF?! Rare for this to happen to a director of Guadagnino's calibre. Must be some corpo-red tape issue.
