we dont have them here in socal. i have fond memories of the chain!! from tampa florida, to memphis tenessee, to atlanta georgia!!!! uncle herschel's breakfast special!! and that little wooden block game! thanks for lifting good memories from my thought swamp!!!
I love it. They had some rough growing pains around twenty years ago, though. Certain policies against hiring homosexuals, and later black discrimination, I believe.
I LOVE Cracker Barrel!!! Whever I leave California I always go to one. The closest one to San Diego is Yuma. I love everything there...from breakfast, lunch, and dinner. AND I love to shop in the Cracker Barrel store.
Sausage n biscuits with sawmill gravy . . . mmmmm . . . . heart attack on a plate. Also the best way to head off a hangover after a night of carousing. Not that I do much carousing, but back in the day . . . . And I agree with Crescendo, blackberry cobbler being my favorite food group. Or anything with pecans.
Mmmm....Cracker Barrel! I wish they had them in Canada. When I am traveling and I see one I always stop. Not much of a breakfast fan so I always get something on the lunch menu. Next Wednesday I will be stopping at one!
I enjoyed several meals at a Cracker Barrel near Nashville. very friendly staff and a well maintained location. I'm going back next trip.
Love Cracker Barrel. I've heard all kinds of things about the chain, but I haven't seen any signs of biased behavior in the one in the city here. Their biscuts and gravy are almost as good as homemade. Sometimes I get pecan waffles with maple syrup or baked apples or peach cobbler... YUMMO! I always buy a jar of jawbreakers on my way out. However, it's about an hour away so I very rarely indulge when I can have those same things sans jawbreakers at home.
I don't like Cracker Barrel. Everyone else in my family loves it though so when I'm in the states I'm always being forced to go there. I prefer Outback or Olive Garden to Cracker Barrel.
Not into the big chains. I can get the same kind of food where I live through locally owned outlets. Besides, I still have a negative impression of them due to past hiring practices...I have no idea whether they have cleaned up their act or not.
You know what their reason was re: discrimination against homosexuals? Basically "because we can"--i.e., "there's no law against it." Seriously! Those iced-tea sip-ins, when a whole bunch of gay and lesbian people would take over the restaurant for hours and order just iced tea, tipping the wait staff what they'd normally make, showed some economic power and made the chain re-think their policies. Wonder whether a similar approach would work in government? NCbear (who thinks it's about time gay and lesbian and bisexual people started showing some economic muscle again )
CB is way better than Denny's and Applebys. Applebys is always changing their menu, a few yrs back when they were doing a lot of Tyler Florence recipes, it sucked big time in fact I hardly ever go there now. We're getting a CB in a few months, I can hardly wait!
