I've seen him in soundchecks doing Q&As before the actual gig a couple of times. I get the impression he is straight but very private and wants to be inclusive in his discussions.
I noticed he defaults to talking about she/her and then corrects himself quite often. A few questions that were asked related to songs and song writing about romantic relationships and he'd say something like "You know, when you suddenly smell another woman wearing her perfume and it all comes flooding back, the nights with her, the holidays with her... with them, sorry, the holidays with them." or "Yeah that songs about breaking up with your girlfriend and then destroying her old photos- their old photos, yeah."
Not exact quotes and not proof of anything, just my impression over hearing him speak a few times.
