Summing up his video: he was venting about the stress he feels about going on tour again after two years of idleness. Having come out recently will make it a totally different experience he's not quite comfortable with yet. Most of the time in the vid, he speaks of his emotional roller coaster in trying to reconcile his faith in God, his relationship with the Mormon church, and the sexuality he'd tried to stifle for so long. He's more at peace now in being open about everything now but still feels a giant question mark over his life.

I feel for him. Deeply. He took the words right out of my mouth as if it were my own journey he was talking about. I have a different church background, but I also am in my 30s and have never been in a real relationship with anyone. Still a virgin. Never kissed or anything. I also feel more interested in an emotional connection than in sex. And I feel that question mark too. So here I am, escaping with porn as a last result, haha.

If you know, you know . . . :no_mouth:

He also mentioned a couple times that the way he was taught, same sex attraction is a challenge from God that you must fight against. And if you do so, in the afterlife, those needs would be gone.

But it became so bad at times that it made him think perhaps it would be better to be dead and not have those temptations than to be alive having to resist not to sin. :sob:

I feel so bad for him. That conflict between faith and identity is devastating. Growing up in uber Mormon Utah really did a number on him. Is it any wonder why suicide attempts are higher among youth who identify as LGBTQ compared to heterosexual youth in that state. And the Utah teen suicide rate is much higher than the national average overall. Certainly isn't a coincidence. Smh

That church really fucked him up. It's criminal the way they brainwash these poor kids into hating themselves. While his struggle between good and evil feels very real to him, it's all made up and nonexistent. Hopefully he'll see that.

OK, so do we think he's fucking or what? LOL

I doubt he’ll go the conversion therapy route. It’s looking cruel and dated nowadays even to most hyper religious people. I wouldn’t however be that shocked if one day he “re-dedicates himself fully to god”, settles down with a chick, renounces his previous “gay ways” and starts saying homophobic shit. You just never know with people who have experienced sociological and religious pressures and guilt and have clearly experienced traumas and ego issues. It can be more exacerbated if that person experiences degrees of fluidity, contradictions, uncertainties about their place in the gender, sexual, affection, romantic, emotional investment, commitment spectrum. But I do wish him well. And at least it seems he’s trying to be honest about his struggles and his traumas.

David's blend of openness and humility is highly rare for someone in his position. For reference, I come from 20 years of a holiness Pentecostal background and have known dozens of guys who faced this exact conflict of sexuality, God, and church people. Many end up bitter in the long run—and understandably so. Many also have the all-or-nothing mindset, which can be highly damaging in any situation. The fact that David specifically mentioned that he'd had that type of mindset exemplifies a self-awareness necessary for a happier life. I've seen my fair share of gay men returning to the church scene and spewing homophobic rants, some even marrying women and having kids. It's a very ugly and repressive mindset that's hard to watch, which is not something I see in David. Despite the heartbreak in seeing him suffer internally, I commend him for handling it all with grace. He has remarkable character.

I, on the other hand, being in a similar position, want to run this mouth and clap back. :joy:
You try to be nice to people sometimes, as many simply just don't understand, but omgggggg.: unamused:

And you are so fixated on someone who isn't even aware about your existence

I don’t see the point in bringing up that old post. But from my understanding, David was not directly saying that he doesn’t sexually engage with guys or that he has no interests in sexually engaging with guys. Many homophobic/anti-gay religious people like to peach that it’s “just sex” or preach resistance towards sexually engaging with someone of your of sex. While many closeted guys, straight-presenting guys, hetero-leaning presenting guys like to use heterosexual behaviors and and hetero sexual attractions to maintain that image. It seemed like David wanted to distinguish that his same-sex attractions and preferences isn't merely about sex but is also about affections, romantic connection, emotional investment, relationship comfort. Of course, religion, family and ego also influence his perspective.

It's sad that his religion has caused so much self-loathing and self-consciousness within him. I have family who eventually denounced the Mormon faith due to the sexist and homophobic culture.
that’s excellent to hear, you should be proud.
