Here is the way I see it:

Beckham an succesful athlete with a trophy wife that everyone looks up to, yet whose body is within reach and can thus play a role model for a lot of people. (as opposed to refrigerator sized US football players who are not with the lage league as most people).

So people get curious to see the differences between themselves and Beckham.
