Honestly, it is the norm and the only people I see using condoms in GAY porn, I suppose I assume are either infected with something or homophobic.

Oh, I don't think that's fair to say. A lot of performers are HIV+ and don't consider it an issue if they're undetectable/on PreP. I'm not saying that a LOT probably have Herpes, but testing does exist for Chlamydia, Syphilis, Gonhorea, etc.
I still say that it's either because testing can't be bothered with, afforded or a LOT can fuck a guy, but fucking them bareback is too "gay".

I once read a post by former gay porn actor turned straight porn actor Ryan Driller, saying that for most porn actors, genital herpes is common, and just a course of Valtrex is all that is needed to clear flare-ups. This probably indicates that testing for herpes is not mandated in the industry.

Just to clear up some misconceptions about herpes. I dated someone for several years that had genital herpes and I didn't get it from them. It was scary at first but we talked with their doctor together to help me understand. I also did some online research. The doctor explained that it is very common and that 1 in 6 people have some form of it.
A couple of things people don't understand about it. First, a person with genital herpes has warning signs (like slight groin pain) when they are about to get an outbreak and they can only spread it while the outbreak is active. So, theoretically, a porn star would know they were having a genital herpes outbreak and could just not work during that time (or do other things that weren't in that area). My partner only had genital herpes, not oral so I don't know if there are warning signs with that version (other than of course visible cold sores).
Over time my partner learned what triggers outbreaks for them (stress and foods rich in l-arginine protein). They took supplements to also help reduce the chances of an outbreak (like l-lysine). They had contracted it several years before we met, and they said that over time their outbreaks were less frequent and much less painful.
We broke up for reasons other than his condition. We don't keep in touch so I don't know how they are doing now. Anyway, thought I would share what I learned in case it helps others.
