I need a 3 bedroom house in good repair, with a fenced in yard and garage for 30k or less...It must be in an area convenient for work and have room for the bus and the dogs. A basement that doesn't flood would also be appreciated.:biggrin1:

    What would you ask for...?

Crikey! I agree. I live in a one bed flat 30 miles west of London, with access to a shared garden but no garage and it cost me £106,500 in 2002. I think it's worth about £130,000 now.

You guys sure know how to kill what should have been a fun thread. Sort of like one of those "visualize your own reality" type thingies...

But since I must explain....I live in the middle of rural, wanna be city, America. Home foreclosures are running rampant and real estate is dropping...fast.

I can buy a house here for 150K that comes with acreage that would cost over a half mil...somewhere else.

Extremely literal-minded people are so much fun to fuck with. They're the main reason I come here.

They'll deny it up and down, but it's the THC that makes them that way. That's OK. The rest of us know that it is.

The market in SoFla is so terrible right now that the house you speak of is available for significantly under $100,000, though still more than $30,000. It won't have a basement (high water table here prevents them) but, on the bright side there's never any snow to shovel and you'd live 20 minutes from a gorgeous beach.

There's also the SoFla Age Recalibration Index which knocks 20 years off your age: 40 here is 20 anywhere else

If that were actually true I would have moved to Florida, but as it stands I only meet people socially after dark in candle lit restaurants with back lighting and breathtaking views.

There were certain neighborhoods in FtL that were so absurdly overpriced that people asked (and got) upwards of $750,000 for a tear-down. That lunacy has finally stopped.

Even worse were the condo developments that were built on the fringes between really hot and totally not: mid-rise, "luxury" units or "lofts" fewer than three blocks from crackville

The biggest fall came not too far from where I live currently in Wilton Manors. It was an enormous development of several acres and at least eight mid-rise buildings built like a fortress (or prison) with walls and gates despite being in a reasonably stable, middle-class part of town. However, it not only sits on the "wrong" side of the freight rail tracks that cut SoFla in half, but built literally adjacent to them; long heavy trains carrying containers or open cars filled with gravel rumble within 25 feet of the balconies for about 1/3 of the entire development

The quietest part of the whole complex features two buildings that had "penthouses" constructed on their top floors, overlooking a beautiful pool/waterfall. They are about 4000 square feet with multiple terraces and balconies and were designed to sell for about $1,000,000. One was finally let go at a short sale for a reported $190,000. I would estimate that the entire complex remains at about 60% occupied, about four years after completion: the maintenance dues are in many cases equal to or greater than the actual mortgages. It's a mess.

That's my trick! I work under a dim pool of 35 watts of red light: dim enough to make Zsa Zsa look radiant and breathtaking

If you all are lucky America really will decline to second world status and you'll be able to find cheap deals too. My 3 hectares with a shack and a spectacular ocean view cost 53,000€. And the penthouse condo was less than 100k.
