I'm mid-30's. I do not recall growing up anyone using the term "cock". It was always "dick". But it seems in forums like this that "cock" is now more common than "dick".

Which slang term do you use/prefer and why?

I'd guess you're from the UK because when I was younger everyone said dick, I prefer cock but I'm not quite sure why I prefer it, maybe because in the mouth it has a feel of a word that's more 'ejected' from your mouth than dick.

When I was in my formative years the common slang for penis was dick. It's only in recent years that I have heard cock used. Actually about 10 years ago I recall cock being used only by my gay friends.

tee hee hee, I like Purple headed yoghurt slinger.

Give me a cock any day. (Sorry. Couldn't resist).

Dick is a man's name. It sounds derogatory. It sounds small and utilitarian, not at all sexy.

Cock sounds big, powerful and awe-inspiring. The way cocks were meant to be.

Dicks are floppy
Cocks are hard

What's in my jeans now is a dick. Pull it out and wank a bit, it becomes a cock. Simple.

I prefer "cock" for a couple reasons. First, I think cock sounds more emphatic, implying male power. Furthermore, cock seems to come from words referring to protruding, like petcock and sillcock which are devices that stick out, for draining fluids.

In the chemistry lab, there is a device called a "stopcock." I always hated that, sounds like a chastity belt or something.

Anyway, 20 years ago the word was "dick." 10 years ago it became "cock." I prefer cock because I have a friend named Dick and I don't want to mix the two together. Of course, there's always "Willy" or "Johnson." As my given name is William, I often refer to it as Willy, a version of myself.

COCK, sounds "sexual",sensual(?)strong,"dirty" etc.

To me, Dick is flacid and somewhat dated.
Cock is hard and in.
For those worried about vulgarity, use the term JUNK. LOL
A buddy of mine was pulling a roast out of the oven one morning. He had just gotten out of the shower and was still nude. The roast was in a roasting bag and as he lifted the bag to put the roast on a platter au jus spewed through one of the vent holes all over his JUNK. It took me thirty minutes to qiute laughing at how he discribed the situation.

Do you want to have sex with a Dick or a Cock? Cock sounds like a really big dick were as dick sounds like dick!

That must have have been some serious pain.

I agree with this and the others. Cock is hard and ready for action. Dick sounds less sexual. Talking dirty in bed I say "big cock", "hard cock", etc. Around other guys I usually say dick or penis.
