Being military myself, I can say for certain that has never happened to me or anyone who I work out with that I have known. Jocks, compression shorts or briefs are the norm when we work out. At the very most, you would see their underwear or jock straps but never total commando.
We usually were jocks when were doing combatives. When it comes to working out, I like to be 'free'.
I go commando during much of the summer and have to be cognizant of the kind of shorts I wear and where I might be. If I'm at home, I don't really care of my balls are exposed when sitting, exercising, gardening, etc. However, I make sure to wear more covering shorts when going out in public. No sense in scaring or disgusting others.
