Do normal saunas still exist?

I'm very naive when it comes to some things. Saunas have never been a sexual place in my mind. They were always part of a spa, swimming pool or gym. They are a place to detox, sweat and leave. They are not a place to have a chat, make eye contact or interact at all. It's 80 degrees there, who has the will to talk in that heat?

But I'm recently realizing that that is not the case for many guys. Is it just for gay guys? Do straight guys ever have gay thoughts when they think of a sauna? I certainly didn't think of a sauna as a place for sex. Sure, you see it in porn, but you also see a kitchen in porn, and not because of that I think that a kitchen is a sexual place. And sure, there's gay saunas, where it's literally just a fuck place. But I'm talking about regular saunas at regular fitness places.

So I'm really curious, are normal saunas really normal? Have I been living in an illusion? Do all guys who go to a normal sauna have gay thoughts in mind?

Of course "normal" saunas still exist. I think you're getting them confused with so called gay bath houses, which may well have a sauna, but where the whole purpose is to provide men who have sex with other men the opportunity for that.

If you go to a sauna at a sports center, swimming centre or a gym, you're not going to have any of those activities, unless of course you went to a gym popular among that same group.

How will you ever know what thoughts are going through somebody else's mind though ? Try and just mind your own business and I am sure you will have no such issues at all.

I don't completely agree with you about the silence and no eye contact comments though, as sometimes taking a sauna is a social activity and many will enjoy a casual chat. This of course depends on the number of people inside the sauna at the time though, as you always want to be respectful of others and need to guage the situation. I for one always say a quick hello every time I enter the sauna. Not doing so would feel antisocial to me.

Yes fair points. An innocent chat is nice, I meant more a chat with other intentions.

I also think normal saunas still exist, but I'm curious to hear what you guys think, because I'm being convinced more and more that when someone talks about a sauna they don't mean my concept of a sauna.

And how will I know what thoughts go through other guys minds? By asking here Are other guys fighting gay thoughts too when they go in a sauna?

Of course they exist. I have never seen a “gay” sauna, “gay” gym, “gay” locker room, and I’ve been pretty immersed in the fitness world for a decade. My point in saying that is that “normal” saunas are so prevalent that I have never seen anything sexual in one. I don’t spend a ton of time in saunas, but it’s always just been (coed) people sitting and sweating and casually chatting.

As for your last paragraph, you aren’t going to know what people are thinking, but other guys are not fighting gay thoughts in saunas. People are not fixated on sex like lpsg and porn would lead you to believe. I doubt that is a straight thing either. I’m sure plenty of gay guys are thinking about chores or projects or movies/sports as they sit in the sauna as well.
