Maybe I'm a bit old school. Many gay men prefer a female doctor but I don't.

Rather have a guy doing what needs to be done down there, thanks.

Perhaps it's similar to many women who (whatever their sexuality) prefer a female doctor to examine them.

Unreasonable?

Not at all unreasonable. My doctor is a woman (I am straight) but it only makes sense that some men would prefer a doctor with personal knowledge of what it's like to have a prostate gland.
I like my doctor, however, and trust her completely. It was actually my wife's idea because she knew I would object less to a woman doing a digital rectal exam than a man. The truth is I actually enjoy being naked in front of women, but as I have a wife I am faithful to, I might as well be naked in front of a woman doctor. It's kind of fun.

I have Kaiser and my "physical" didn't really have much touching at all. No finger puppet, no nut grab. He did listen to my breathing through the stethoscope, felt my lymph nodes in my neck. In fact I only took off my shirt to get an EKG because I have had a few heart flutters over time. My last insurance plan had more hands on stuff from the doc.

3 yo thread resurrection???

I'm early 60's. go to the doc twice a year. doc is a woman about my age. she gives me the hernia test once a year. she's totally professional, but does look at me and grin when she fondles my big balls. she was probably pretty good looking at one time. I discussed my ED with her, which led to a discussion of our sex lives somewhat. she said her husband has the same problem. gave me free samples of Viagra and Cialis. she told me that even tho she is post-menopausal she still enjoys sex. my wife also sees the same doctor.

Plain and simple; I prefer male doctor.

Not sexist...females have the same equal qualifications as males.

But in the doc office if I have to "drop em" I prefer the dude doc...especially when I had the worst jock itch infection and I was freaked out by it....until I learned it was just jock itch.

But beyond that...I just prefer male doctari.

Being as I am in the medical field, this would be my advice. Ask your friends who they go to for their physicals. To ask for recommendations would give you the chance to look he or she up online and get a better idea of things. Prostate exams usually start at age 50, so you should be fine. But remember when you turn 50, ask for lube!

I used to have a female GYN thinking I would be better off, but one time I had to see her ASAP and she wasn't on that day, so I had to see her partner who is a male. Turns out I liked the male so much better. I found females tend to compare themselves to other females, where as a male will tend to be more sympathetic. Needless to say, I switched. In the end, you should feel comfortable with who your doctor is and trust him. You know the saying.."Doctors bury their mistakes." This is true. And if something feels off, and any Doc says you are fine, never stop investagating. Nobody knows your body more than you. Too many times I have seen medical mishaps due to false negative testing. Please don't let this be you. And if you are 50, get that colonoscopy. And don't think you don't need one just because colon cancer doesn't run in your family. More colon cancer deaths are of those who think this! True, colon cancer does run in families, and those who are aware get tested and many lives are saved. It is more those who don't think it so necessary are the ones who often find out too late.

Good luck to you on your appointment!

Funny story, my doc was a male but he's always so busy I just started seeing the nurse practitioner instead. I actually feel more comfortable with her. I can discuss anything with her comfortably. Well I have three frenum piercings and as much as I like the attention I get from them, I usually take them out for an exam just to avoid an awkward one on one convo with the doc. Well this one exam I didn't think about it and forgot to take them out, and as she was checking my balls, she spent an unusually long amount of time down there. After the exam I was kinda worried if something was wrong. She said "I was just checking your piercings out. I never saw anything like that before". We had quite a talk about how it felt during sex and I told her "now you have something to talk about at dinner tonight with your husband". Lol! On a second note, small fingers are better ;)

In my 30's, the doctor would do the cough test, where he would squeeze my balls when I coughed. When I turned 40, I was then asked to strip down, lie down on my side. The doctor will then put on latex gloves and stick a finger up your bottom for 10 seconds. When I hit my 50's, I hear that he or a specialist will stick a vacuum tube up my anus to my colon. That's my story.

Well to update this thread. I have now been to the doctor once for each of the last two years. It is a male doctor. Rather old guy (Over 60 easy). I get a full physical which includes a full examination of my genitals and a digital rectal exam. The first time it was super weird but since then I;m pretty much fine with the whole process.

I recommend all men regardless of age begin a patient/client relationship with a Urologist. They will do all necessary blood work, etc ... That way as you age they can compare last years results with the next, etc ...
