Usually dryers are secured against catching fire by a thermal fuse that burns through if the temperature exceeds a maximum, thus tripping a connector and taking the heating unit off the line. If the temperature of the contents of the dryer isn't too high yet, a fire should be avoided by that.

A nice tip, but maybe a little over-protective.

Agreed Claire,

The thermal sensor is generally placed on the Heating element case, or shortly downstream of the element.

Some of the older dryers do not have this feature though.

The other precaution to take is to pull your dryer out every once in a while, and clean out the duct at the outlet. This can also collect a big lintball.

And that ain't no sheet.

Dryer precaution...very important...We always clean the lint from the
filter after every load of clothes

Thanks for the tip about cleaning the lint trap Rikter8. I don't have my own dryer, but ensure that I clean the lint trap before I dry my clothes at the launderette. I've even been lucky enough to find $10 in the lint trap on one occasion. This probably explains why some of the launderette's staff don't want me to clean the lint trap so they do that task instead to lay claim to such treasures.:wink:
