No-one said he was disrespecting those who actually fulfil their commitments though. It's him trying to get cred off the back of elements of the uniform, despite claiming he finds what that uniform represents abhorrent, so much so that he bailed on his commitment. if he actually had pride in almost being an actual soldier, he’d wear the uniform correctly. Us Service members constantly have to watch what we do in public since whatever we do reflects upon the whole army and the military in general. Wearing it as if it’s some trendy outfit bc it says ARMY so ppl will “thank him for his service”
His problem isn't the philosophizing. That's endearing. It suggests he's striving to understand his good fortune/existential angst. His problem is that he's not any fun. Even when he's having a good time he seems like a lost soul. That's probably what the Army was about. Maybe the whoring too if there's any truth to what his haters above say.

My question: did Dylan bring him to NY to meet his rich friends and usher him into the easy sugar baby/rent boy life, only Evan couldn't handle it?

Not to continue analyzing dylan’s personality when we know nothing, but a lot of times philosophizing is a bad trait with certain people. I know a lot of douchebags who like to think they’re smart and go into self help culture/philosophy/ spirituality just as a way to boost their ego and not deal with emotions. I reckon dylan is the idiot kind but who knows.
The shorts were free and he kept them. Just cuz he got kicked out (we waiting for the real story to finally come out) doesn't mean he has to turn everything back in, just the weapons that he can no longer touch as a pacifist.
