Graying out at 33 is considered quite premature. Some people do, but that means there's some weird genetic mutation. When it starts to happen around 50, that's considered pretty normal. Some don't before 60, and some even later.

Basically genetics, I'm only 25 and my hair is really dark, and yet on the sides is full of some gray hair

graying before your 40s isn't normal. i'm 32, so a year younger than him, not a single gray hair. my hair is a super dark brown, so it'd be very noticeable if i started graying. gray hair happens because when you're old, your body doesn't produce as much melanin, so the hair starts losing its color and turns gray. it's not a normal thing to happen to young people. there's still no clear answer as to why some rare cases of young people going gray happens, because it can be from a variety of factors, like genetics, hormones, diet, etc. but it's not the norm.
so no, it wouldn't be normal for dylan to already be graying at 33. which is why people would be surprised if he were already graying
