Have any of you guys heard the entries for 2009?.....I have watched them all on youtube and there are the usual mix of good and bad....who's got your interest?.....my faves so far are:-

no particular order:- Bosnia&Herzogovina, Malta, Albania, Greece and Russia

I didn't know they still had Eurovision song contests until I followed a link to its article in Wikipedia a few weeks back. I always thought it was something from the '70s and '80s. I think it's because winning songs from those decades are the only ones most Americans are familiar with.

I ain't heard any of the entries yet. I'd rather be gob-smacked by the awfulness of them all on the night.

Thank god Terry Wogan won't be commentating on it this year. Yes, Terry, we know it's awful, we don't need you ramming the point home constantly. Hopefully Graham Norton will show some enthusiasm for it and get into the spirit of things.

(I've referred to it as the Eurovision Voting Contest the last few years, lol.)

So far in Australia, a wickedly funny female compare Julie seems to be bound by a contract or something and only speaks in intro and after the song, not her normal scintilating self.
I miss the cringingly awful comments of Wogan.
It's rather dull without him, his awful tackiness only seemed to compliment the fun.
Tonight Igor had nice eyes, but no strength to his voice, we'll see if tomorrow night picks up. I'm so over the swirling hair and flashy intro "postcards" and what about the Russian compares .....he's like a shocking character out of ....of...?.........shit .....I've lost it......you know........."miss Penelope's gang"

It's a wonderful institution and plays a huge and vital role by cutting through cultural differences and rivalries fostering harmony and friendship between European countries. But because we all share a love of music this sense of bonhomie spreads to include all citizens of the world.

2007

IMO, from memory; being drunk would be the best way to watch the Eurovision Song Contest. Failing that, perhaps gnawing off a limb or two would serve as alternative way to divert one's attention from its manifest awfulness.

This year little seems different, save for (after a quick Google) the singer of the UK entry, Jade Ewen ... let me just say say that in a segment of video on her website, I'm put in mind of beauty and the beast - and she's not the one on piano.

To paraphrase the Monks; Pretty Face, shame about the song.

For those unfamilar with Mr Webber, that's code for she's gorgeous.

It still won't entice me to watch.

Okay my faves have changed...with just 80mins to the show begins my 3 fave are Bosnia Herzegovina, Portugal and Estonia.......but norway,greece,russia,sweden,albania,armenia,finland i expect will all do well

Well mostly anyway.....who gave Moldova 12pts???.....at least 2 countries....weird tastes there...

....and the politics was not entirely absent but for once it took a back-seat and allowed a deserving winner.

What does that matter? It's a SONG contest.
Sadly I think Norway have cynically (and successfully) cornered the two voting blocks that would ensure them victory - by choosing a gay-looking Russian.
Unfortunately for the rest of us he has a very punchable face.

Iceland was cool. Whats with that woman who mimed tho..when the real singer was at the back of the stage? lol. (Maybe romania..or Moldova? cant remember which).

Good of UK to come 5th - good performance but song was a bit boring. Sorry Sir Andrew :/

Turkish girl was cool - reminded me of Shakira. Ukraine was scary though, lol.
