October's only a few days a way. What are your favorite horror movies to watch this time of year?

Friday the 13th (the original): The setting is gorgeous. It was filmed on location at a real summer camp in new Jersey and it triggers this sense of fond nostalgia for days of my youth, juxtaposed with horrrrrrror. The woods are also really lush and it's easy to imagine ancient evils lurking just off screen in those woods. I also like late 70's fashion.

Halloween (the original). A nice slow burn. All the better for not being in a hurry to get to the running and the screaming.

Those are my two favorites. There's other horror movies I enjoy (like Alien), but not so much as Halloween fare.

What about you guys? Any recommendations?

For the creepiest i usually go for "based on true events" type, such as:-
The conjuring
The Possession
The exorcism of Emily Rose
The Haunting in Connecticut

Curse of the Demon (1957)..when I was a little kid, I went to a kiddie movie, and during intermission, they showed the previews of coming attractions and its scared me so much, I had nightmares for years. It was actually on a few years ago on halloween, and I did manage to tape it, then bought a DVD of it. Still scary, and brought back fears of the Devil....

For me, it's the same ones you mentioned. Halloween and Friday the 13th. I also do enjoy the Scream movies, but they are a different type of horror in my opinion, more on the 'thriller' side.

The Haunting in Connecticut

This. Is. A. Scary. Movie.

I happened upon it a couple years ago on TV, never heard of it before that. It freaked me out, and I'm in my 40s. And I watched it during daylight hours.

It was...is...the scariest movie I've seen.

You should watch the Conjuring.. its even more SCARY than Haunting in conecticut

The Wicker Man (original version, not the Nicolas Cage one lol)

Yes, yes! I love that movie. The remake, of course, is an abomination.

I am a big horror fan. The best horror movie of all time is Psycho, even though it isn't scary by todays standards and even though the last ten minutes of the movie seem incredibly dated nowadays. I guess everyone's seen that one, but if you haven't then get going!

Other favorites includes Nosferatu - Eine Symphonie des Grauens, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligary, The Thing (original and remake), The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, The Invisible Man, Nosferatu - Das Vampir (if that one counts) and Don't Look Now.

I agree that The Conjuring was a good movie, much better and scarier than The Haunting In Connecticut. I could have done without the blatant Christian propaganda, but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and I got more than a couple of good scares out of it, which is somewhat rare for me. I highly recommend it to fans of the 70's horror movies like Poltergeist or The Exorcist.

Another movie that really got under my skin was El Orfanato. But then again, I've heard people say that they didn't find that movie scary at all. I guess there's something about creepy kids that just terrifies me. A great movie no matter what.

Oh, and the Japanese horror movies scared the shit out of me when I was younger. Ringu and Ju-On in particular.

To be precise about Friday the 13th, it was filmed in Blairstown and Hope, NJ, right on the lake. Since then, it's had several umpteen relocations
The actual camp site scenes were filmed on Camp-No-Be-Bo-Sco

I like Rec, the Spanish version.

I watched Last House on the Left the other night but it was more gruesome than horror. I prefer atmospheric horrors to too much blood and gore but not my much.

The Descent always scares me and there is a similar one called something like 'As Above, So Below, set in Paris. This looks pretty scary.

The staples, of course: Friday the 13th ( new and old. They're both good.)...Halloween ( new and old, as well. Rob Zombie did a fantastic job with the remake.).
But, my favorite would have to be the original Dawn of the Dead. I saw it at a midnight showing at the local mall with my dad & it scared me so bad,I didn't sleep for two days.
Since then, zombie movies (& t.v. shows) always get my attention.

I'm immune to horror movies. They don't do a damn thing for me. I sit there bored out of my mind.

I think there are only a very few horror movies that are actually scary. Most, especially over the last decade, have been absolute crap. I sort of blame the Scream franchise for that.
Saw series, Rob Zombie, Hostel series are exceptions, I generally liked them.Zombie's original stuff (not his remakes of halloween) have probably been the best in the last 10 years. Even though it's extremely repetitive, I like where the Paranormal Activity series is heading, i hope they don't fuck it up.

Oh this is my JAM

mario bava ALL THE WAY

planet of the vampires (which is thought to have inspired alien), blood and black lace, black sabbath (inspired the band's name), lisa and the devil...ANYTHING by bava

Friday the 13th was inspired by bava's twitch of the death nerve
