I don't feel that it is inappropriate at all. Personal decision. If someone else don't like it, then they can look away.
That's the way I've always gone. No one ever said anything but I have gotten some looks. Great on recumbent bikes, I've seen people (girls and guys) discretely watch.
Would be hot ifwe did together it feels more comfortable to me

I tried it once and I vowed never again. I could not keep it down despite what I thought about. I ended up leaving before I even began my workout.

Working out ..i can't do it because my balls start hurting. same with jogging. There is a reason why we should wear jocks or some kind of support while working out. Hernias don't feel very good.

Can't doctors orders to always have support. Then again have you checked the size of my nuts?
I travel a lot for business and use the fitness rooms in hotels, same deal as the gym but what I like to do when I get up is throw on the gym shorts and a t-shirt (I sleep nude of course) and go to the lobby and get a cup of coffee. I usually have at least a semblance of morning wood which shows really nice with gym shorts or thin sweats, at least a real nice VPL. I've gotten some looks that way too.
What twoton and mako (support, not doctor's orders) said. And sometimes, just like the comfort and support. Rarely freeball, and when I do, I become uber self conscious. My girl ALWAYS notices, and chastises me.
