To be honest, noticing the details that make people think about this requires a bit of a rabbit hole, but you don't have to go down too far to find the first signs of vertigo.

First, I want to point out that I personally don't think he's gay, but rather queer. In other words, within the spectrum of sexuality he can fit into some definitions such as bi, pan or fluid. My point is: he's not straight.

Second, for people who have followed his career for a while or more closely know that he has an, let's say, interesting and creative way of dealing with certain facts of his life and career. There are several facts that prove this that his fans ignore or turn a blind eye to. For example: before, he said he had Greek and Russian ancestry. And he said this directly. And after he started to become more famous, his Russian ancestry was never mentioned again. In fact, a magazine/website did some research and found out that the facts he said were not true, but when they sought a statement from him or his team, they got no answers. When apologizing for a joke he made on International Women's Day on Twitter a few years ago, he claimed to have a degree in women's studies or something similar, but no record was ever found that he went to college. And there is even a person who worked with him directly behind the scenes of a film who revealed to a fan that he lied about an important fact during the filming of one of his movies, possibly to show how talented he is. So, let's just say he has a somewhat dubious track record with the truth.

Now about his sexuality. That's another rabbit hole with dozens of things I could talk about to explain this "theory", but there's a "story" that I think is one of the silver bullets for him, so to speak.

During the promotional campaign for The Idea of You last year, he "revealed" that he had a "girlfriend" during some interviews, even though no one actually asked him about his real relationship status. Anyway, after this soft launch, some clues about this relationship started to appear. Normal, right? He is a rising star with increasing notoriety and public attention. However, all the "sightings" and/or "spotlights" of him with this girlfriend so far have always basically followed the same path: someone who saw him and his girlfriend somewhere took a picture of him, but never of her or of the two of them together. And it's not just once or twice, but every time so far they've followed this path. It could even be normal or not so accusatory until we put it together with other pieces of the puzzle.

All the "news" about his appearances with his girlfriend were released/reported/revealed by the same source: the gossip blog/website DeuxMoi. And this is already strange, because there is no other celebrity gossip outlet that would be interested in this type of scoop and photos, even though he is not yet at the level of Timothée Chalamet or Glen Powell. But the plot thickens when we find out that one of the owners of DeuxMoi is Austin Kevitch's cousin, who has been Nicholas' "best friend" for years, so much so that the two lived together for a long time and the actor introduced him to his friend Camilla Cabello, who they have been dating for a while. Coincidence, right? (Read this part with a lot of irony). And in case you didn't understand why I said this, I leave you with this thought: why would an actor who is straight and in a relationship do this simply to publicize his life in a very controlled manner? Because he is not straight and, possibly, is not in that straight relationship that he wants to publicize in this way.

And there are other factors that are part of a narrative about why many are so sure about Nicholas. I hope that answered your question.

There are delusional people but a lot of us don’t think some of these men are gay because they are masculine. Masculinity is what many people use to determine someone’s sexuality. Even us gay men.

When we see a male celebrity who paints his nails and wear makeup we assume he’s gay like straight people. When we see someone who is jacked and has a deep voice we assume he’s straight. There’s definitely a problem with stereotypes but it could also be a little indication but not always.

We make think all these guys are straight but we don’t know for sure. I’m gay, I only have eyes for men. I’ve been with some very feminine guys who said they were bi. If you saw them talking about their love for women you’d think they were just in the closet. They have no reason to tell me because I’m gay.

There’s guys that are masculine like Henry Cavill and Matthew McConaughey that could definitely be bi or gay but fly under the radar. I’ve meet many guys who I thought were straight that are gay or bi.
